Smile Very few compatible phones for BMW

Unfortuately - like with most things technological - BMW is way behind the times on compatible bluetooth technology. They only update their compatible phone list approx once a year - and the phones on the list typically are older models that have been out on the market for at least 9 - 12 months. So if you like the latest phones - you are usually out of luck.

Also be careful if you use a phone that isn't on the list and it does "seem to work" - it might work temporarily - but I have had the experience with BBs (that weren't on the "approved" list) that worked OK for a few weeks that ultimately stopped working and then shut down my radio electronics system causing me a dealer visit to get it to be reset.

Ultimately I had to ask for new version of BB from work to resolve so that I didn't have to make dealer visits (since this happened twice - darn autosync).

All in all - the bluetooth compatibility is abysmal for BMW, but when it works it is very convenient.

Hope this helps a few people avoid trips to the dealer for electronic system malfunctions.

yup, BMW Bluetooth "compatibility" is lame

I agree. It is unbelievable how behind they are. My car had 3-4 dealer visits before we figured out that my battery and electronic systems were failing because my blackberry wasn't compatible with the BMWs bluetooth module. When I got an updated list of phones I could use there was only one blackberry model from my wireless carrier that would work but that carrier didn't even sell that model anymore! I'm so angry I could spit. I've spoken with BMW customer service numerous times and they seem to not care. I can't even find an updated compatible device list on the site anymore - I think they realized they'd better hide how out of date and lame they are. I laughed when I saw your screen name "buyalexus" because the last time I talked to BMW customer relations about this and other issues I told them my next car won't be a BMW but it probably will be a Lexus. My mom has a new Lexus and we couldn't find a single phone on the market today that wasn't compatible with her car - go figure.

My blackberry tour works perfectly with mine 530XI 2007. It also downloaded all my contacts which I have over 200 of them. Actually I have two phones the 2nd phone is my wifes cheapy from verizon and that works, the only problem is that if she starts the car and my phone is in the vicinity it will establish the connection with my phone at which point she will need to manually move her phone up on the list to connect otherwise hers connects automatically.

No complaints with the blue tooth at all.

No joy whatsoever with my 2004 525i and the Moto Droid 2. Had fairly good success in the past with a succession of non-Smart Moto phones.

My iPhone syncs great for phone, address book, and bluetooth. I have a 2005 545i with Nav, what are my options for getting my playlist to go through using Bluetooth? I know that I can buy the $450 ipod adapter from BMW but that won't give me any Bluetooth music. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hey cmh, which iPhone did you pair? I have a 4 and was wondering if I needed the CPT9000 module kit? The Motorola BMW phone in my '05 745Li has no sim. I don't know if I would need to upgrade my iDrive version in order to pair? I have to check which version I have, I just know I have the 9 options on the main screen. Sorry for all the questions.

Edit: I just looked up I would have the v60? So maybe the module I asked about wouldn't work properly?

I am using an iPhone 3GS. I doubt that you would need to upgrade the iDrive but I am not sure. Sorry.

same here!!
2008 / 528xi
My wife got a new phone. it paired quickly and worked well. Then it shut down after a week.
I eased it and started again and it wouldnt work.

The SA said that it wasnt compatible and it will work a while then quit (normal).
My phone doesnt work either. He gave me a list of 17 compatible (aka old) phones made when the car was new in 2008.
NOW he tried to pair his ohone and the system doesnt work. He said that the battery was too weak to continue with testing of either the phone or the battery.
So i guess i have to use older phones. If you want electronic gadgets to work get a ford fiesta.

What a disappointment. everything they charge a ton for as state of the art goes obsolete before the warranty is over. Like navigation and bluetooth...... not to mention the battery and other basic electronics.

Then they have attitude and charge a fortune to "patch" what they screwed up.

If you want a BMW rent one for a week or so every now and then.
I never leased before but these cars CANNOT be owned!!
BTW I have a charger on the battery now as I am typing.
It gets me upset.

My old LG flip phone (red) which worked great w/ my 05 545i just died, and I specifically limited myself to LG phones so I could be sure it would work w/ my car. Now with my new LG Cosmos touch, the phone book won't load, and I can't even use the voice dial feature on my phone while the bluetooth is connected. Anyone have any ideas of what else I can try?

I had the exact same problem when I upgraded to the Nokia N8 but I had the dealership reinstall the bluetooth program and now it pulls up the phonebook but I get disconnected more often. When it starts up it connects, then in about 1 min it disconnects then reconnects...and once in a while it disconnects again. Odd...but I'm trying to live with it because the tech guy told me not all phone are compatible with the car...only reccommended phones. bummer bimmer...

I received my BTUM CPT9000 today, for my 05 745Li which I bought off of another member, and it works with my iPhone 4! I just made one call to my house to test it & it's good

I have a Blackberry Bold 9780 that syncs just fine. Contacts upload, etc. So far.

In fact, I may just add "so far" to my signature line.

I recently bought a '07 525i & am having trouble pairing it with my Blackberry Tour. BMW website says that it is compatible, but after the Bluetooth pairs it immediately acts like a call is in progress. I saw some similar posts from others, but haven't been able to find a post with an explanation or if there is a fix...any help would be much appreciated!

Question IPhone 4 Doesn,t Connect 2010 528xi

My wife and I both got new IPhone 4's yesterday. Today I spent a couple of hours trying to sync either or both phones to our 2010 528xi resulting in a complete fail every time. Called BMW customer service and they were no help at all. The guy kinda thought maybe they were incompatible, but wasn't sure. ???! Anyway if anyone has any ideas for me I would be very appreciative. My wife has the phone operating about 90% of the time. Thanks
