2007 328i fuel gauge problem

have any of you had this problem. The fuel gauge was going haywire and just going all over the place.

I talked to an INDY and they said the gauge is located in the fuel tank and that the whole thing needs to be replaced.

What should i do. He said it costs about 1300 to fix.

I dont trust them. No way you need to replace the whole tank for a gauge problem

I just want to confirm with others.

The car is worth like 7000...why would i spend 1300

Because maintenance and repair costs don't depreciate.

Step 1 is to ignore GG Hyundai's "advice", and open realoem. Looking at the fuel tank, the level sensor is built into a fuel pump. So find your car on realoem, and figure out which part number you need, and order it.

Example: http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E92-335...189/ES2702296/

No idea why your indy wants to replace the entire fuel tank.

Once you get the pump/sender unit, follow this DIY

Is it just your gas gauge?

Does the rest of your cluster work? Is it recording mileage?

When you remove certain fuses (or they blow), the gas gauge behaves as you describe. But in addition to the weird gas gauge, mileage is not stored, ABS, DTC, DSC, EBD, AWD etc.....basically all the safety systems are disabled. Wipers go into safe mode and wipe continuously. Speedo doesn't work. And there are many shadow faults that store in various modules.
