E92 325i intermittent humming noise HELP!

Hi guys, ok so I bought a new e92 325i m sport 2008 last week. All is great except one little thing. Like the title says there is a strange intermittent electrical humming noise which I can hear while idle also while driving. It comes and goes. I had car out today and no noise until I drove 10 mile then it started, came on for about 5mins then disappeared, then I drove another 10 mile (car hadn't been turned off) to home and noise had returned, it's driving me nuts. Mainly because I have garentee with car which runs out in 2 weeks so want to find what it is incase it bad news. I will try and attach a video, it's defo not the a/c unit as had that issue on my e90

Please listen carefully as it is really faint (speaker next to ear) but loud enough to annoy me, hope yous can help. I will be hugely grateful,

I cant hear anything, this engine only facing with few rare problem with vacuum system. Try to start the engine and let the engine run at idle and then remove the oil filling cap, if the humming voice gone or you cant open the oil filling cap, it mean your ventilation valve is bad.

I can def. hear it, it does not start until 5 seconds into the video over on the left side of the motor its almost like a beeping type hum with an almost medium to high pitch/tone beeping about once a second

Oh, i think that is the problem, ventilation valve. It located on the valve cover, check your country whether they do sell the repair kit of not, malaysia here we dont have repair kit, normally we need to change the whole new valve cover, expensive.

Not so sure what you mean on the first question, but the head cover yes is the sound coming out from there, definitely. Just when the beep humming sound coming out again, just remove the oil filling cap, if the beep sound is gone, means the ventilation valve bad.

Really appreciate your replys guys, I will take your advise on board when it goes in to get looked at hopefully this week, called into bmw at weekend and suprise suprise couldn't get noise to reproduce :@ but they heard it a little and said didn't know and would need noise to be on all time to locate it. But....since then I've noticed, when idle and revs at 1000-1500rpm is exactly when it appears and assume also while driving (but engine noise drowns it out) and gets worse and more frequent as engine gets hotter. I'm thinking maybe coolant/pump system related. Excuse the long msg, as I stressed earlier, need urgent diagnosis as car still under guarantee, cheers for the help

Is really nothing to do with your coolant pump, so sorry have to disagree with you because i met this problem and solve it, i am a mechanic. If you not confident on what i saying, just do the diagnose like what i suggested. Just open the OIL FILLING CAP while the beep sound is present, if the beep sound is gone, that mean your ventilation valve is bad. I will send a picture of that valve later.

No that's great. I appreciate your help. I'm not clued up with cars so my coolant theory is only a guess, I will inform the garage of your advice. Do you know if it's a costly fix?? Just car is still under garentee so if it is the car can go back (reluctantly)

Erm, actually i from malaysia, malaysia price here is around 1-2k ringgit, i not sure about the price because my boss is the one who decide. We never repair the cover because malaysia here never sell the repair kit, we usually replace the new cover.

Yes, that is the one. Your engine is n52b30 the cylinder head is different than n52b25. If the b25 crank case valve is bad, we can change the valve under the intake manifold, b30 the crankcase valve is build in with the head cover, but cylinder head is better you wont get the ticking sound when morning you start.

Just had garage on the phone, my macanic (15yr at bmw) said it's not the ventilation valve as that would mean a constant hum/beep whereas my videos Cleary show it only appears when I rev the engine to 1000rpm, he seems to think it is the throttle air valve or something,!! And is normal but is unfortunate that you can hear it on some models but can't on others. Tbh I'd rather it of been something that can be sorted out, but at least it's nothing to worry about and car runs fantastic.
