328 xi - cooling fan running too much

I noticed that the cooling fan of my 2008 328xi is running a lot more than usual. The service engine light came on and then went off and can back on again. I went to my mechanic and he showed me leaked coolant at the bottom of the engine area. He thinks that the coolant supplying pipe is at fault. But he recommended that I change the pump, thermostat and the pipe since the cost of going into the engine is not worth taking a chance. Also, the codes are also recommending changing the thermostat and the pump. He is quoting about 1700 for the whole thing. Does that even sound right? What do you guys suggest?

The fan screaming can be an indicator of imminent pump failure.

You can get the pump replaced for around $1000-$1200. Shop around else where

Including tstat, not pipe.

But if the coolant system is being torn down anyway, it shouldn't be more than an hour of labor to put in the pipe depending on which on it is.

At most with the cost of the part, it should be about $200ish more.
