335is and Iphone 5

Hi I have a problem connecting my iphone 5 with Os 6.1.4 with my car. I connect it with the standard usb cable that came with Apple. Previously I used to be able to charge my phone that way, but no music. Now my phone says something like this accessory is not compatible for this device or smth similar to this or sometimes it just doesn't do anything. I tried both usb ports, the one in the glove box and the one under the arm rest. I tried the same with my phone and my friends phone and two different cables.

Does anyone have the same problem? Also was anyone able to actually not only charge, but also play music with the iphone? If so how did u do it? Thx

(blue tooth connection works fine, but I can only use it to do phone calls)

I posted about this problem when I first got my car too. I have a 2011 335is.

Unfortunately, the basic cable doesn't work. You need the apple USB Y-adapter for BMWs. Dealers sell them, but I got one on Amazon for super cheap. It's the kind that plugs into your phone's pin connector, and then into BOTH the USB and Aux jack in the armrest. After I tried that the system was able to read my phone just fine. I don't know if they sell the Y-adapter for an iphone 5 jack though, I'm using my old 3GS.

Hi thx for your post.
I did find the y cable for the iPhone 5 on eBay. It connects to the USB outlet in the car and the aux outlet in the car. I also found another cable sold by BMW that connects to the same as just mentioned AND the cigarette lighter outlet. Which one do u think is better? Do both charge and play music? I don't know why BMW's also connects to the cigarette lighter outlet. Thx!!

well I have the same issue with my 07 and found out that the iPhone is not compatable to play music, you have to use an I pod for the Y adapter,
have you synced your iPhone to the car?
