Brake Caliper Rust

Why do our brake calipers rust more than any other vehicle?

Are they under warranty?

Starting to look pretty badů

No warranty there. BMW otherwise would have to replace every new set of brakes in the country.

We've been powder coating customers calipers/rattle clips/brake anchors and have had fantastic success with their aesthetics.

Brake Caliper Rust

When the calipers on my Five rusted, I had the dealer paint them.

I will have them do the same on my Seven.

And another complaint is our brake calipers are so ugly! Look at Mercedes,

they have nice looking huge calipers and would look killer when painted.

When impure (cast) iron is in contact with water, oxygen, other strong oxidants, or acids, it rusts. If salt is present, for example in seawater or salt spray, the iron tends to rust more quickly, as a result of electrochemical reactions.

That's the why.

Why didn't you paint the entire caliper?

The rust was only showing on the plate. The caliper's silver shade looked fine. Also, painting the whole caliper in red seemed too much for my taste, so I went with this approach. Down the road, it will be very easy to change to a different color.

Here's a few that we did.

The orange one used to be blue.

The yellow one is now black.

I just refinished a full set on an E90 in silver to make them look "new" but I cant find the picture

Those pictures looks good as they "appear" a one piece caliper. The F01/F02 caliper is composed of several pieces, so I wonder how they would look powder coated.

Do you have pics of an F01/F02 powder coated caliper?
