My 06 330i has been a PITA

I have an 04 530i and an 06 330i. The 5er has had a few issues, but nothing like the 3. So far I have:
  • Replaced the idler pully bolt when the head snapped off
  • Replaced the left xenon head lamp
  • Replaced the water pump and thermostat
  • Brakes - which is to be expected
  • Battery which is to be expected
  • Replaced the starter (PITA)
  • Replaced the crank shaft position sensor. Same as starter and I believe I cracked it when I did the starter
  • Replaced the transmission mechatronic sleeve
  • Currently work on replacing the rear bearing
  • Looking like I need a new CV and Flange due to galling
  • Replaced the driver side power door actuator

Seems like a lot for what it is. I still love driving the thing so I just put up with it.

Anyone else have such issues?

How many miles? It's the first model year and a BMW so issues are to be more likely.

It's got ~ 95K. I have had it since it had ~25K. It is the first model year, but I do not believe they have re-engineered any of these components. Some of these items are to be expected. The difficulty/heartburn is somewhat related to the location of some of these components. For example, I have never seen a car that requires you to remove the intake, and about 14 electrical connections, to change a starter. I should have replaced the damn oil separator while I was in there but I did have to replace some of the hoses since they crumble when you touch them.

That water pump is pretty crammed in there as well with an octopus of hoses coming off that thermostat.

I had few more items not on your list, but 80% what you discribe I have also.
Didn't replaced my right parking light yet. On my third set of tires, second battery and water pump. Was issue in gas tank with evaporator - CEL light was on for more then year until I get fixed ($650). Both front and rear actuators dead in 3 days a part.

Of course, I just spent close to $1200 to replace the Oil Pan Gasket and belt tensioner, and spent $1000 at 60k to fix transmission leak and replace fluid. It seems BMW does not buy long lasting seals for any fluids. And let's not forget the radio pixels issue that has plagued the car for a long time.

There is a reason BMW original warranty expires at 50k, because they know that parts will begin to break at 50-75k, and then it gets even worse between 75k-100k. Hence the extended warranty only runs another 2 years.

My E90 has been a PITA in its first years. Most non BMW people would have qualified it as POS.

But it has been surprisingly reliable in the last 3 years - now at 81K miles. *knocking on wood*.

My 2007 328xi has the xenon headlights and the driver side just turned pink. 113k miles on it. Should I just replace the bulb or might it also be the igniter(ballast)??? Click image for larger version

Replace both bulbs. The other side is likely to die soon as well

When they fail.

I've had the following replaced.

Water pump/tstat
2 Batteries
Oil Level Sensor
Engine head (for ticking valve lifters)
Trans pan and gasket (cracked pan on high pavement)
1 D1S bulb
Various other bulbs (but upgraded them to LED)
All fluids, including lifetime
Fender liners (I tear through them sometimes)

These were replaced more so for handling improvements:
All suspension mounts and bushings
Shocks/struts/springs for coilovers
sway bars
arms to ///M arms

Over the course of owning this car for 8 years, I would say this is all normal maintenance, minus the engine head replacement, trans pan, and fenders.
