Smile Replace headlight bulb

Hi All,

I am new here and I am happy to be a part of the bimmer family.

I recently bought a 2014 BMW X3. I like the ride. The only thing I miss is HID headlights. So I am planning to replace the headlights and fog lamps bulbs with a whiter Xenon type halogen bulb. I was able to get access to headlight bulbs but I was not able to remove the bulb from the holder. I took a pic of the bulb holder and could see 3 clips. But I couldn't remove it. The manual is not at all clear. I am not an expert so wanna play safe.

For replacing fog lamp bulbs, manual shows that the whole housing should be removed from the front. No need of reaching it from behind the bumper. But I am still not clear how to do it. I bought an LED bulb as a replacement for fog lamp bulbs from Amazon. I think that should fit correctly.

Please advice. It would be great if anybody could share a video or detailed pics with the steps to be followed.

Those tinted halogen bulbs are pretty useless, they will never perform as well as the HID. If you put LED bulbs in the fog, you will need resisters to prevent the light out warning light on the dash. I believe the fog are held on by clips inside the bumper.

Thanks a lot. I know HIDs r more efficient. But it will cost $4.5K to replace it at dealership.

So please advice how to remove the bulb. Bulb is held strong in the holder.

Hi All,

At last i successfully replaced headlight bulbs. Its pretty easy.

Tip: There r three clips - one at 2 o'clock, one at 6 and one at 10. So push the bulb up so that it become free from the 6 o'clock clip. One that is out pull a little and pull it vertically down and voila the bulb is out. While placing the bulb back make sure the pointed strip is up and 90 degrees to the ground, and just push it in.

I have installed Philips Diamond vision and it looks cool. Exact replacement for HIDs. Will post some pics.

But I am still stuck with the fog lamps bulb replacement. If anybody could figure out please let me know. There is a release hook, I am not sure how to release it.

Sure I will. I installed an LED bulb and now its showing warning on the dash. So I am looking for a halogen or error free LED to replace it. Once I buy that I will make a video or take some pics.

But will that void the warranty. I have heard BMW guys are strict about it.
