It was a 2013 dodge ram. Hit me in the front driver side, that person was going wrong way on the highway.

Just incredible.

I am always very appreciative of the superior safety of my car, as it's lightyears ahead of my previous vehicle (both for me, and for others on the road).

While I think it's interesting that a couple billionaires out there might not choose to buy a fancy car, I'd still get one if I were one of them, if simply based on superior safety alone, forget the badges.

Trucks and truck based SUVs are the most dangerous to others I've read, in large part because they are based on the frame rails that will pierce right into other cars like the tines of a fork into a steak.

My truck is no exception. When I replaced my lock cylinders, I got to see what protected me in a T-bone. Basically just one thin sheet of metal, and a bunch of empty vacuous space. Love my BMW.

Mend well bimmer buddy!

My former Z4 was rear ended at a stop light by a Jeep at 45mph. I had some head cuts and the Z4 was toast. The Jeep ended upside down, also toast and the driver had to be cut out.
Even thought the Z4 has a small passenger compartment, it's integrity held and it could have been worse. I then bought an E93.
See you back on the road with another bimmer?
Mikey

Glad you're "OK" considering the amount of damage!

Most people tout the luxury or performance features of BMWs. While I certainly enjoy those, I was fulfilling a childhood dream but also bought the car due to its quality steel and safety record. I happen to drive by the local state police barracks on an almost daily basis and one day noticed a 3 series which was mangled in a similar fashion but the windshield hadn't even cracked, amazing!

Wishing you speedy recovery and looking forward to viewing the pictures of the replacement bimmer!

25%-corner-on-corner are about as ugly as it can get. Nothing crumples the way you want it to, and the systems don't always trigger properly..

Glad to see you're still on the right side of the grass!

What happened to you? If you've been in the hospital for four weeks you had to have serious injuries.

My information might be a little dated but up until recently SUVs generally haven't been as safe as cars, even when they get hit. Higher center of gravity, easier to roll. Crumple zones aren't as well designed, allowing intrusions into the passenger compartment. Steering columns that impale the driver. Poor protection when T-boned. Heavier, so can't brake as quickly or turn as quickly to avoid a collision in the first place.

Sorry you got hurt so badly that you are still in the hospital after four weeks. Happy that your brain is working enough to post. Get well soon!

I fractured my hip/pelvis area, my leg right below the knee in the joint, my ankle at the joint. Then my elbow That coves most of it. All on the left side.

Was rear ended in my Superduty few years back....felt a shudder....couldn't see what caused that small quiver.

Then noticed a Mazda backing off my rear with MAJOR front end damage. I stopped but the guy, prob illegal, kept on truckin'! CHiPs didn't find him.

My damage? Few flecks o'paint on trailer hitch; bent bottom bumper tab.

Yep, that's Superduty, 3/4 ton. Diesel Superduty. Yes!
