How do I keep the stereo from shutting off?

After washing the car today I rolled down the windows so I could listen to the radio while I dried it but it kept shutting off after about 10 minutes. Then I'd pull out the key and push it back in for another 10 minutes. Is there any way to prevent this? Thanks!

iPhone; earphones.

See that way you won't totally annoy folks with the boom-de-boom-de-boom.

Try putting a full charge on the battery.

That may may it stay on awhile longer.

Read about the IBS system in the above link.

Yes with all my other cars I could wash it while listening to the radio but not this one.

Keep ignition switched.

You will surely drain your battery this way though

You can code the car and force it to go to sleep later, but that will bring about other issues.

Like mentioned previously, there may be a coding option, but all BMW's following the E46 go to sleep after a certain period of inactivity.

They usually don't wash cars too often in wet climates so they probably didn't think about that option or didn't care over in Germany. I learned this after moving to Seattle. Couldn't find a carwash anywhere. In So Cal, there is one every other block. In Seattle, they have a drive through coffee stand instead.

This comes from over and under engineering.

This comes from over and under engineering
They put to much in the way of inefficient electronics
in to the point it sucks the battery down.
The car draws .5 amps when awake.
There was no trouble with this in earlier models.

So you can't take this car to a drive-in movie unless you leave it running the entire time?

Jeez...
