That's the passenger air bag light, probably the passenger occupancy sensor is going bad.

When I put the key in sometimes it turns on, and sometimes it doesn't, but never stays on for more than a few seconds. Could the shop have messed it up? Because it happened right after I left the place.

Changing tires has nothing to do with the airbag sensor. It's just an unfortunate coincidence.

So what do I do, I have no clue. This issue happens some times, but most times when I put it in ignition the light turns on, but then goes off again.

Have somebody sit in the passenger seat and drive around a bit to see if it senses an occupant and turns off. In the newer cars, the airbag warning for the passenger side illuminates on occasion too (..it's overhead near the map lights), and shuts off on its own.

I did, it only comes on when key is in ignition, and the car is not turned on. The light comes on for literally 3 seconds, and comes off on its own. When my car is on a running, that light is not on.

See if you can have the codes read and cleared. Usually all the sensors check themselves (well, not really) on ignition and them turn off. Since its an airbag, would go to the dealer for sure.

Wait a second here. Are you saying that the light comes on when you have the ignition key in AND BEFORE you start the engine. The light is already out once you start the engine?

Do you have standard (non-sport) seats? Passenger seat airbag detection mat recall for '07 335 issued end of last year -

BMW is performing a recall on various 3, 5, 7 & X5 series models from model years 2006 through 2007. The passenger side front seat occupancy detection mat may fail, resulting is a deactivation of the passenger side air bag system. The repair is to modify or replace the passenger side seat occupancy detection mat.

Affected models (depends on the specific seat type optioned for the vehicle):

E90 3-series sedans:
2006 325i, 325xi, 330xi
2007 328i, 328xi, 335i,

E91 3-series wagons:
2006 325xi
2007 328i, 328xi

E60 5-series sedans:
2006-07 525i, 525xi, 530i, 530xi, 550i

E61 5-series wagons:
2006-07 530xi

E65 7-series:
2006 760i

E65 & E66 7-series:
2006-07 750i, 750Li, 760i, 760Li

E53 X5:
2006 X5

According to the recall:

"Should the system fail, in the event of a crash, the front passenger air bag would be deactivated, increasing the risk of personal injury."

The recall notification letters will be sent in January 2014, as the repair parts are not yet available. Second letters will be sent when the repair parts are in-stock and available for installation (expected to be March 2014).

Additionally, 2006-07 3-series models with standard seats, 5-series with comfort seats and Z4 models will receive an extended warranty on the passenger occupancy detection mats.

Owners of affected vehicles are being notified by BMW. Further information can be obtained by contacting BMW customer relations at 1-800-525-7417.

Ummm...isn't that what's called a "bulb check"? The light is REQUIRED to come on when the ignition is in the 'on' but not yet 'engine running' position. It's so that you know that the warning light is still functional.
My point being that doesn't everyone's supplemental restraint warning light come on briefly when the key is being turned?

That's what I'm thinking.

The passenger seat mat throws an error in the middle of the cluster, along with that little airbag light.

This is not a seat mat issue.

That light lights up when an occupant is less than 70lbs.

It's to protect a child if they are in the front seat.

Airbags deploy at over 200mph and can injure small occupants. That's why it's ALWAYS recommended to have children sit in the back seats.

Forget about the seat mat sensor.....that's not your issue.

Once again, DSX has nailed it. Our ubiquitous federal regs call for a 'bulb check' when the key is turned...and they all soon extinguish.
