E92 replacement wheels + tires

My son just purchased a 2011 335i coupe. He wants to replace the stock wheels and tires. He found a set of used 19" advant garde m3 wheels with continental extreme contact tires for a very good price. I think the wheels are like 19" x 8.5". I mounted two of the wheels on one side to see how they fit. The front wheels extend past the fenders and the wheels won't rotate full turn without hitting. The rear wheels were a better fit, but the distance from fender to tire concerns me. I know you can modify offsets and change springs etc. I don't think he really wants to get too radical but he really likes the look this wheel type offers. Can anyone help with an optimum wheel and tire size? Would you advise staggered, etc. thanks in advance for your consideration. Regards,
