Another oil option available for DIYs

Yesterday I stopped by Advance Autoparts to pick up some oil + filter for my wife's GX470. They had a new synthetic oil, Havoline Synthetic, made by Chevron. The MSDS shows that it meets BMW Longlife-01. You can get 5qts + oil filter for $24.

By the way the Advance Autoparts (DriveWorks) filter is the same as the Mann filter. I compared the Mann and DriveWorks filter at the store and they are exactly the same filter. I guess now that Mann owns Purolator they are supplying oil filters to the local chains. Good for us.

WalMart is where I have found the best price by far on all 'specialty' oils. I regularly load up a couple shopping carts while cleaning out all the shelved stock. Usually comes to $5-600 on the old AmEx card. You can't touch $22.96 anywhere else including in bulk from my wholesale suppliers.
Strangely, oil at Sam's Club even costs more than at WalMart. Costco is no better.

FWIW, shops usually pay significantly more a quart than you can buy it for at most any retail outlet. Even when I have my bulk tanks filled it costs me more than you can buy it for at Pep-Boys, AutoValue, Advanced, Napa, or Rileys.
