Will a 2004 E46 radio fit into a 2001 E38?

I have replaced my radio with an aftermarket unit ('04 325i), and my friend has a 2001 740l and the radio doesn't work.

Any chance my radio will fit in her car? I told her I'd send it to her if it does, but I can't seem to find a clear answer anywhere.

Thanks!

I would suspect the short answer is 'No'. Anything is possible but I don't know anyone who could give instructions on this one.

This is a very easy and simple question to answer. Look on the radio unit you removed and get the BMW 11 digit part nbr and run it through one of the part nbr search features like at. Hopefully we are talking about compatible radios...like if you had onBoard navigation...thus you have the nav BM53 radio. If you're referring to the in-dash CD/radio...then no...it won't work because each model (e38/e39/e46) have audio component parts that are specific to each model...the only exception is that the e39/e53 share some in-dash components (in-dash CD/radio or Cass/radio)...and all e38/e39/e46/e53 share the same BM53 radio if you have onBoard Nav set-up.

Again, get the 11 digit BMW part nbr from your radio and run it through one of the part nbr search features at either of the sites below: (bmw part nbr looks like this "xx xx x xxx xxx" and has NO alpha characters and does not include anthing after a period " . "
