Smile APEX ARC-8 & tires on 2011 535i xDrive

I've searched the threads; can't seem to find anything on 19" ARC-8 rims.

Does anyone know what is the maximum size wheels/tires I can put on a 2011 535i xDrive? Looking at the APEX ARC-8 rims. 19" x 8.5" ET35 in square setup. Maximum front tire 245/40/19? Or, can I go with 8.5 in front and 9.5 in back, with 245/40/19 in front and 270/35/19 in back? Not planning to go on track, but was interested in the "look." Plan to get Pilot A/S 3.

I plan to sell my Conti RF and put snow tires on my 18" BMW OEM rims. Rochester, NY, winters... Blizzaks?

Thanks to anyone with advice!

People have put 245/45/19" tires on the car with no clearance problems and less than a 5% change in odometer and speedometer reading. All four tires on an X-drive must be the same size.

Thanks radarguy. I found this older 2012 post on Bimmerpost: http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=664780. "In Europe we have different dimensions front and rear for Xdrive with 18 "x8 et30 front / 18" x9 44 ET rear. .19 "X8.5 ET33 for front / 19" x9 for ET44 Rear. 20 "x8.5 ET33 for front / 20" x9 for ET44 Rear." Do the electronics in the xDrive work if the front and rear tires have the same diameter (regardless of the width)? Or does the width affect things like traction or other sensors? I'm not an engineer, so really don't understand the logic. Is it true, that in Europe they factory asymmetric xDrive setups--why would it be different in the US?

I guess I'm leaning towards doing the ARC-8 19/8.5 in square setup with 245/40-19. Probably less issues and better miles on the tires (ability to rotate)? Anyone else have opinions? Thanks again. (I just got this car two weeks ago--my first BMW--and I'm very excited to make an already amazing car a little bit more amazing).

It's not the width of the tire that counts, but the rolling circumference. You want one revolution of each tire to equal the same distance. BMW selects their 18, 19, and 20 inch tires on the 535 so that each has the same rolling circumference.

Before you put 19" tires on your car you should consider the failure problems people have had with 19" tires on their 535Xi. This is especially true if you are considering 19" all-season RFT tires. I switched from 19" to 18" all-seasons for that reason. While I don't experience the winter snow that Rochester does, I find the 18" are perfect in the snow (as were the 19") and they don't fail like the 19" do in summer or winter.. You will find that you run out of under-carriage clearance before you run out of traction. The X-drive is really quite capable on these vehicles.
