Electronic smell through vents

So I have been getting a smell coming in as soon as I turn on my blower fan. With or without AC on. The best way I can describe the smell is it seems like a hot circuit board type smell. Not burning though. If you've smelled an burned circuit board, you no how intense that is. It's not that type smell. I'm thinking maybe the blower motor? I'm also wondering if my CPO warranty would cover the blower motor. I know some electronics are excluded. I need to check my warranty book.

From what I see, the blower motor in not one of the items on the "Not Covered" list.

AC components are normally not covered under CPO.

Dealer replaced my AC Evaporator under CPO at 55K miles and said that leaks from it caused the vent smell. 5K miles ago. That's all I know

It's kinda strange....the smell is there as soon as the air comes out of the vents, even when the car has sat in the garage over night. Nothing has time to get hot, and as time goes by, like 2 minutes pass, the smell seems to disappear.... As I've stated, this is without the AC on...

Have you tried removing your microfilter and seeing if there is any debris in there or fluids?

Maybe try replacing the filter

I have the burger filters installed. I cleaned them a week ago just to see if it would make a difference.

Any update on this? I just started having this issue recently with my '09.

Today I replaced the filter but I noticed that the smell is coming from inside the vent area. My guess some motor needs replacing

I have been experiencing a plastic/rubber type smell -- almost like Band-Aids -- coming out of my vents for close to 2 years now. The smell is faint when you get in the car, but when you turn on the A/C and put your face to the vent, it is quite strong. I have no problem with the cooling or volume. When I have brought the car in in the past, I have been told various things: no leaks, mildew, floor mats, etc. -- basically no resolution. I don't drive the car often (it is a 2008 with 15,000 miles), so the A/C is used infrequently.

Last week, they did something called a "Wynn" treatment (fog-like treatment for the vents) as well as changing the cabin filter. The treatment only masked the smell -- I could still smell it, but it was mixed with the treatment smell. The other day, I drove the car with the A/C on and it gave me a headache.

At first they did not want to do any additional testing, but armed with another thread from Bimmerfest [http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho....php?t=736924], they contacted the factory representative again. They decided to do further testing as the preliminary tests did not find a leak. Unfortunately, further testing requires removal of the dashboard to get to the evaporator. I was told that even if a leak is not found, they are going to replace the evaporator under warranty.

While I was there, I was speaking to the technician working on my car. He let me smell some used evaporator oil that was evacuated from another car. It was a very strong, chemical-like smell. I couldn't say that it was exactly what I am smelling in my car, but that may be because it was so concentrated and mine is diffused through my vents.

I really hope this solves the problem because I don't know what other options I will have after the evaporator replacement.

Nothing new on this. Still there. I'm just living with it. It lasts about a minute then seems to go away....or I just get used to it?! ***128563;

I got the car back today. I was told that oil had leaked from the evaporator. The evaporator was replaced and the case was cleaned. My car smells like a BMW again.
