Hi,

don't know whether it already exists eldewhere, but I will attach a list of modules and abbreviations with English and German translations.
I started to collect all those abbreviations during my coding sessions from different sources and threads/postings. I also tried to fill in the translations as good as I can. Curious thing is that many of the abbreviations stand for their respective German expressions, others are based on their English expressions.

Please feel free to update and/or correct the list wherever needed.
:)

Handling would be easier with an Excel file, but only pdf is allowed to be attached.
(Perhaps, it would be a good idea to have such explanations made "sticky"?)

Hi,

from the sources, you pointed me to, I tried to make a consolidated list, so that we have one single source for abbreviations.

Some comments from my side:

  • There are several modules, which have the same purpose, but different abbreviations, depending on the car, they are used in; perhaps, even different software developers at BMW might have used different abbreviations for the same thing (e.g. "KOM" / "KOMBI")
  • Some abbreviations are standing for their German meaning, while others are based on the English expressions
  • There are several modules that occurred with different meanings (e.g. "CDC", which, at one place was called "Compact disc changer", at another place it stood for "iPod interface")
  • There is no warranty for the correct alignment between abbreviations and meanings, because all the sources are not directly related to BMW but to third party documents
  • Due to unsufficient technical knowledge, I wasn't able to translate every module name from English to Germen language or vice versa

Please feel free to update or correct this list, whenever needed. (sorry, I can only upload pdf-files)
:)
