Reaer View Mirror Installation

I have a 1997 BMW 328i, and I have a problem re-mounting my rear view mirror.

I purchased several perts to include:

- Base Plate
- rubber covering (goes around mirror)
- Mirror

The base plate has a triangular shape protruding from the front that fits into the mirror (The other side of the plate glues to the windshield). The shape also has a lip at each end on the triagular shape, which should lock into the mirror.

The problem I'm having is that the base plate doesn't lock into the mirror. It only fits into the mirror with no way to lock it in. There are no scres on the mirror to lock the mirror to the plate!

Can someone help me on what I'm missing, or what I need to do to resolve this?
