Get missing dash pixels repaired by BMWNA (E39)

they use remanufactured old clusters for the replacement. you aren't getting a "newly manufactured" cluster. the old ones will eventually develop the same problems.

Hi, I contacted BMWNA and received a call back week and half ago.
I have an 01' 540 w/120k. I was asked if I currently or previously owned any other BMW. Of course my response was YES!
BMWNA replaced the instrument cluster for free and I paid 1hr labor. Three things I've noticed about the new cluster 1) there's a 1/4" gap now on the left and right side where the wood panels fits between the dash. 2) the flat portion of the cluster seems loose. 3) the turn signal is noticably louder. Really not complaining since my cluster was replaced for free with 1hr service is not bad at all. I just want to thank you all for posting the cluster replacement post.

I got a call back today from BMWNA saying they will cover parts and all I owe is labor. 525i 2002, 88,000 miles, bought it about 2 weeks ago.

I got my radio MID covered by the same warranty. BMW of Dallas is awesome!!! Had an E90 330i as a loaner for teh week it took the part to arrive!

Well I got my response on my 2000 M5 with 85K which already had the display replaced once and they are willing to pay half. Mike said they usually will cover full amount if 5 years or newer and lower mileage helps as well. But I still am reluctant since the replacement lasted only 3 years. If I was the original owner I would be livid. Still undecided whether to take them up on it.

I purchased my 530i sport approx. 5 months ago. I noticed the pixel missing on the temperature and mileage section fading. I called BMW and they authorized the free cluster and I had to pay for the labor installation. Thanks to this site I was able to get information on defective issues.

I just received a call saying they will replace my cluster at no charge. Thanks for the advice!!

The dealer replaced the instrument cluster today. My cost 98.00 for labor. CO BMW in Loveland, CO did the work. They also washed the 525i. Thanks to you all for the fix.

All I have to say is holy ^&$^&$ I checked at my dealer and they quoted me $1,300 for the cluster so even if BMWNA paid half I'm looking at $750 plus labor to replace a 3.5 year old part. The SA even said don't bother replacing it unless its really bad because it will go bad in a few years again. I may be calling my BMWNA contact again. At $500 I was ready to suck it up but c'mon now this is their garbage parts and they are making it my problem!

If anyone else is unhappy with the 50/50 response someone on the M5 board is trying to get group pricing from VDORepair to fix the cluster so it doesn't break in a few years

The MID on my 95 740I is starting to have vertical line problems in random spots. I am going to try the email tactic and see how far I can get. Only think I am worried about is the fact I just bought the car, it has 216k miles, and this is only the second BMW I have ever owned.

anyone have a lot of miles and still get a deal??

they said they will pay 25% of a $500-700 part, and I still have to pay the labor. whoopty doo

pretty quick considering the bureaucracy!!!(cant spell) of big companies and thanksgiving.

WilliamBlake - did Loveland BMW replace the cluster under warranty or is your 525i out of warranty now? I'm about to buy a 2002 X5 with 35k miles on it that has dead pixels. I wonder if BMWNA will replace the cluster? It is out of warranty now.

Maryann called me back and said they would cover the part and I would have to pay the discounted labor cost and will only take an hour. She gave me Jason as my service guy.

Please advise if you find anything. I have not seen any DIY articles. I plan to DIY mine, using ribbon cable to replace bad contacts. I think thats what VDORepair do.

oh2bfarfromhere, the cluster was not replaced under warranty. I went through BMWNA on the advice of this thread. They decide on an individual basis. Best of luck!

Thanks WilliamBlake.... I emailed BMWNA the other day and got an email back from Leonora pretty much straight away.... hopefully I'll get away with just having to pay installation costs!

I got the 50/50 deal plus labor. I wrote back to Mrs. V and asked I be concidered for the same deal that so many others had gotten. Still waiting on a email or call back from that. Ted was the guy I dealt with and he seemed completely uninterested in helping me out.

Just got my pixels repaired today. Todal cost $102.32, got a new 328I as a loaner and the total process from email to repaired took 2wks and 5days.
