Happy Camper
Just got my pixels repaired today. Todal cost $102.32. BMW of Dallas was the dealer and got a 2006 328I as a loaner and the total process from email to repaired took 2wks and 5days.
I'm the 2nd owner of a 2001 540IA, now with 83,407 miles and I could not be any happier. Plus the fact I go vacation after today for the next 12 days.

Well, I guess I take the cake! Just had mine replaced...Total cost was 0. BMWNA picked up the entire bill for the part AND the labor, so I guess they do look at it on a case by case basis.
Here's what I had going for me - I'm the original purchaser and the car was about 2 months shy of her 4th birthday when I originally emailed Leonora. At the time of repair there were 77,500 miles on the odometer. I was fully expecting them to make the 'We provide the part you provide the labor' offer, however the guy at NA said he wanted to pay for the whole thing in this case, but that he needed to run it by the Marketing Manager first. Next day, he called and said everything was ready to go. I think if the car would have been 2 or 3 months older (and hence been out of the warranty period in terms of age) I would have gotten the same deal as everyone else.

Not so rare
I got the same nothing out of pocket offer from BMWNA.. I had owned the car for less than two months, was the second owner, it had 81000 miles, was not purchased from a BMW dealer, and was my second BMW. I actually did both the email to Lenora and the call to BMWNA. The call worked much faster for me.

I walked in to my office this morning and had a message waiting for me on the phone. Sophie, of BMWNA, informed me that my case had been approved. All parts will be paid for by BMWNA, and I pay for the hour labor install. I need to contact my service advisor at BMW of Bel Air and schedule the appointment. I first emailed Leonora Vlaovitch on 11 December. Given the holidays, I'm extremely pleased with the turn around results.
Giant kudos to jetpilot10 for this! Thanks!!! Frederic

I was the orginal poster of this process and it is pretty damn cool to see so many have benefited from the Super Secret Pixel Repair Program offered by BMWNA. I haven't received any death threats from any BWM reps for me passing along the helpful information, so I guess all is good! lol

About to try my luck with this as well.
Emailed Leonora yesterday morning and got a reply back asking for a copy of my registration and information. The pixels in my instrument cluster died under my original factory warranty while I was leasing. Now the pixels in the radio have failed and it supposedly isn't covered by the CPO warranty. Hopefully they'll cover everything, but even an hour of labor is better than the $770 the dealer quoted me. |

Is this the code for the pixel? Just curious... since I am the 3rd owner and it is still under warranty and it seems like this work was done on the vehicle, therefore, just curious whether it was already performed or not.

Cluster Good Will Gesture: Canadian owner of a US E39/M5
I sent an email to Leonora from BMWNA in December. I politely asked if there was something she could do to fix my cluster, on my US imported 2002 M5. I even proposed to drive down to the closest US dealer (Vermont) from where I live in Quebec, Canada, where dealerships have no such campaign.
To my amazement, I got a call from the legendary Leonora today. She asked if Vermont was still my preferred dealer, and claimed that she would assign a rep on my case, and I would hear back within 2 business days. I am keeping my fingers crossed as I would probably be the first Canadian to get the good will gesture. |

Emailed her myself about a month ago. Got a rep on my case, but the rep is having to resend the info back to wherever it all gets sent b/c it was messed up in processing or something. The first offer was 50/50. Don't know what it will be once this is all processed over again. The pixels on my instrument cluster have gone out and now the pixels on my radio are going out.

Good Will gesture offer from BMWNA, for a Canadian
Well I got the final offer from BMWNA today, and while my case is peculiar, all they managed to offer is to pay for 50% of the new cluster, and the labor is on me. I don't know if I will go for it or not. I'll call up the dealer I arranged to go to in Vermont, and ask if they obtain a Canadian/European cluster. Then maybe it will be worth the trouble (2 hour drive from Quebec, Canada) and the money (approx = $700 parts + $100 labor + $60 fuel).

I called up the Vermont dealership, and they will only support, sell, and install a US cluster, and pay for %50 of the $950 cluster. I think I will pass on the offer.
I dont know if my cluster pixel problem is worth: 4 hour Return trip to Vermont (crossing customs twice in a day) $475USD in parts $115 USD in labor $60 in fuel 1-2 hours at the dealer waiting for the the repair |

Sorry to hear that the NA in BMWNA doesn't include Canada....BMW should take a long hard look at that and rethink their position.

Hi, I'm new to this forum so please excuse if this has been asked before. Does anyone have an address for this type of repair in Europe?

Heard back from the rep. They offered to cover 50% of the parts cost of the radio. Better than nothing, I suppose, but I have a hard time justifying paying $450 to replace my radio just because I can't see the right leg of the M in AM/PM...

Well, I went in yesterday to get my valve cover gaskets replaced. I didn't figure the gaskets would be covered by CPO, but they were. On top of that, when I inquired about the price of the 1/2 parts and labor for the radio pixel replacement, my SA told me that the radio display was covered by CPO, even though the radio itself wasn't.
What I'd like to know, is how this went through my previous SA and BMWNA without somebody realizing my warranty covered the repair. In any case, I have pixels again and no more burning oil smell through my vents. $50 well spent. |

BMW of Bel Air just called me this morning....they finally received word from BMWNA about the approval, and they ordered the new MID. Should be next week, when I get the car in.

When I installed the sub in my car, the pixel issue resolved itself. So when I was at my dealer, I spoke with a service writer and he said they could "good will" the repair without BMWNA involvement at all. Lenora had contacted me after my submitting the title for proof of ownership stating I would need to have them (the dealer) verify the problem before she would do anything about it. That's when I found out the dealer could do it on their own. My issue was that my case might expire since it no longer has missing pixels for a visual check, and he said to just bring it buy when the lines dropped out again and there was no time limit to worry about.
And for those who don't have dealer relationships where they'll hook you up - might try getting a subwoofer. |
