It is a long thread but read it from the beginning...there are some firms in the US that can fix these clusters. I'm not sure that helps you much, however. You'd have to pull your cluster, mail it in, wait, get it back and install and hope it works.

I've just recently contacted BMWNA but have not heard back from them. I purchased my 2002 530i on 3/24/07. Had 57030 miles on it. Great car. I had to get one because my wife drives a 2006 525i.
Hope to hear from BMWNA soon so I can get my pixels fixed. |

Airjack, we have two 5 series at the house. A Total BMW family. One is an '06 525i and mine is an '02 530i. I mentioned that in my email to Leonora.

my 2 cents
I also had some success by calling BMWNA. I know emails worked, but when I called, I got mine covered without a single penny paid by myself. The Service Adviser was shocked. This is my second BMW, a 03 530 that had 80,000 miles when I contacted them, after owning it for less than a month.

Just got my pixels fixed. Only two lines were out, but it was driving me crazy.
I called BMWNA and asked for an updated status of my new E93, which just finished being built and I will be picking up in Munich. After the update, I told them I was having pixel problems with my current 2002 E39. I was instructed to have the dealer look at the car. I had an appointment to get the alarm looked at and told the dealership (Lauderdale BMW) to also look at my pixels that I had spoken to BMWNA. After a few hours, they called me back, told me that BMW will pick up the cost of the part, but that I will pay for the labor ($100). On the invoice it said it was a "goodwill WTY replaced". I bought the car new from Lauderdale BMW 5 years ago and it only has 40,000 miles. I'm not sure it that helped. The dash looks great, get it done!

Just got back from getting a new MID at the dealership. Spent $42.46 in labor, lowest price I've seen so far for this fix.
Leonora took a few days to respond to my initial email, but my patience is worth the free $700+ part. |

Wow, this morning I sent another email to Leonora. But this time I just cut and paste from the OP and I got a response in a little over 30 minutes. Now that is just weird. Gonna start the process and see how long it takes.

My 530i is in service as I type. Should be done around noon. Estimated labor $250. This is at Harloff BMW in Encinitas. Wish I could have shopped around for lower labor cost. I'll post an update when I pick up the car this afternoon.

I am amazed that my 1998 with 124,000 miles just got this done. Part free, and $94 labor.
It took about 2 months, and a lot of persistance on my part, the ball was dropped by both BMW and the dealer along the way.
