I was the original poster of this thread, and now some 5000 plus views later, and countless benefactors of the information, just goes to show that information is power....lol
I am really pleased that the detailed information I provided has helped so many get thier pixel problems repaired for minimal out of pocket expense. I bet if LENORA could hunt me down she would send me a letter bomb.... Keep posting additonal feedback based off each individual experience on dealing with BMWNA on these repairs. We are all here to help each other in some form or fashion. Dave |

I was contacted by BMWNA today regarding pixel repair on my 99 BMW 540iA Sport which has 57,000 miles and they are going to cover 100% of parts and I will be responsible for the labor. This gesture goes along way in regards to brand loyalty.

Ok I sent another email to Lenora 2 days ago and again have not heard a response. I am going abut the wrong way. I would just like to be able to my display again.

Just checking in with my results. I emailed Leonora on 1/31, received an email from her a week or two later asking for more info which I provided, then I received a call about a week later from Mark. Then I called the dealer and set up an appointment for today.
Total cost: around 85 dollars for .7 hours labor. This is for the MID (radio) display, not the Instrument Cluster. Thanks all! |

I guess pixel problem is covered under factory warranty?? (part/Labour) I realize most posts are referring to problems after coverage expired. I just noticed I have a line burt out on my radio. Did,t even notice untill I was reading this thread.

This thread is a life saver....I just brough a 99-540i and the cluster was working fine them about a week later they started going goofy on me....after looking online for what it was....I found this thread...I've fired off an email today 3.6.06 and will wait to hear back!

I sent out my email today at 10 AM and had a email back by 2 PM the same day...she asked for some info on the car and then is assigning me a rep to help get this fixed....this is great thanks

It's frustrating to see you guys getting 100% part coverage from BMWNA on similar age/mileage E39's. I was told by "Sofie" at BMWNA this afternoon that they would cover only 50% of the part cost on my '99 540 w/ 60,000 miles. I asked what criteria was she using--it seems like a lot of people are getting 100%.
I mentioned this was my forth Bimmer in 12 years and I am a loyal owner, love the cars, etc. etc. etc. She asked for the VIN's of my 3 previous BMW's, which I spent 1/2 hour on the phone with my insurance agent looking up. I called Sofie back, she wrote down the VIN's and said she'd call me back. But when she did, same answer: "Sorry, 50% is the best we can do for you." I asked her again what the criteria was, and she kept saying, "Sorry, that's the best I can do for you, case-by-case basis, I understand it seems arbitrary, 50% is still pretty generous for an out of warranty part, etc..." I tried to negotiate it down to 50% of the dealer cost to no avail. Apparently, there's someone at BMWNA (other than the service reps themselves) making these decisions--Sofie seemed pretty positive when I mentioned the 3 prior BMW's I owned, but obviously my case got shot down when she went to get it approved. Maybe they're targeting customers "most likely to purchase a new BMW from a dealer" the next time around? |
