I was told by "Sofie" at BMWNA this afternoon that they would cover only 50% of the part cost on my '99 540 w/ 60,000 miles. I asked what criteria was she using--it seems like a lot of people are getting 100%.

I mentioned this was my forth Bimmer in 12 years and I am a loyal owner, love the cars, etc. etc. etc. She asked for the VIN's of my 3 previous BMW's, which I spent 1/2 hour on the phone with my insurance agent looking up. I called Sofie back, she wrote down the VIN's and said she'd call me back. But when she did, same answer: "Sorry, 50% is the best we can do for you." I asked her again what the criteria was, and she kept saying, "Sorry, that's the best I can do for you, case-by-case basis, I understand it seems arbitrary, 50% is still pretty generous for an out of warranty part, etc..." I tried to negotiate it down to 50% of the dealer cost to no avail.

Apparently, there's someone at BMWNA (other than the service reps themselves) making these decisions--Sofie seemed pretty positive when I mentioned the 3 prior BMW's I owned, but obviously my case got shot down when she went to get it approved. Maybe they're targeting customers "most likely to purchase a new BMW from a dealer" the next time around?

I can totally understand and relate to what you are saying, and where you are you coming from. I received the exact same response from BMWNA in regards to my pixel replacement. 50% off the part(s), and I would have to pay for labor in addition. After hearing this, I felt the same way after reading posts from other owners with success stories of only having to pay for approximately one hour of labor, and BMWNA covering all of the parts although their car was the same age of mine if not older? I was greeted by the same response......."I'm sorry sir, it's a case by case basis........"

However, after thinking about it........I thought to myself, I wouldn't have even known that something like this program existed unless I had stumbled upon this thread. Yes 100% parts and I pay for labor would be great, but 50% off of parts and paying for 1 hour of labor is much better than paying the full price which ranges from $650-$750. Yes, although it does kind of suck that unfortunately you and I, and several other posters didn't quite get everything we wanted.......however I feel like something is "always" better than nothing.

I recently had my pixels replaced. BMWNA picked up the cost of the part and I paid for one hour of labor. The whole process from the initial email to repair was about a month.

This very good advice. I have a 2003 530I, 26K miles and I've notice some blanks in my radio stations. Wasn't sure what to do about it, but now I do. Thank you.

Happy to hear that everything worked out, and yet another success story. Keep 'em coming.

Your car should still be under your original BMW manufacturer's warranty? No.

Who is everyone e-mailing? I e-mailed Leonora 10 days ago and haven't heard anything back. I mentioned in my e-mail that I'm also the proud owner of a '03 530 bought new at a local dealership (this car, btw, had the display replaced less than a month ago under warranty...), but no response whatsoever. Has anyone had better luck with e-mailing someone else (or sending follow-up e-mails to Leonora)? Is it possible to approach the dealer about this?

Thanks!

She emailed me back right away and then I got a call from another person who was assigned to help me....they have offered to pat 50% of the part and I pay the labor....not the best but much better than paying the whole thing...I've not done the work yet maybe this next month

Just to confirm, some of the pixels on my dashboard where "Lights On" or "Coolant Level" appear with my speedometer are missing. From reading the previous post, the MID replacement which is below the radio that controls the air/heat will be replaced? Will this cure the dashboard missing pixels as well? I have a 1997 540i. Thanks

The MID is located below your gauges (RPM, Speedometer)...THAT is the part being replaced. However, if you have issues with the readout below your radio, give it a shot...maybe they will do something there as well!

Ken, I think this is for US only. Even the guys north of us (Canada) cannot take advantage of this offer.

Guys, the MID is the Multi Information Display: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...92&hg=65&fg=05

In other words, the MID is what controls your radio, OBC, clock, etc.

If you have an 03 shouldn't you still have the 4yr/50k mile factory warranty?

After not hearing back on my initial e-mail to Leonora from about a month ago, I e-mailed her again this morning (this time, I made sure to mention that I also have a 530 that I bought new - not sure if it made a difference). Within an hour, I got a reply from Guy Faulstich that BMW NA would like to pay for 100% of the parts and to go ahead and schedule with my local service manager.

As others have mentioned, I find this to be an extremely nice gesture from BMW and it definitely ads high marks that will be remembered for future purchases.

I'll be scheduling the repair shortly. It will be interesting to see if the offer covers both clusters (I have missing pixels both on the dash display and the radio display).

On a side note, the dash cluster went out last year in the 530, but was replaced under warranty.

Thanks again to everyone who posted about this.

I had my MID replaced not too long ago then my instrument cluster started acting up. Now I'm here at the dealer waiting for them to replace it.
