Got my response - 50% parts covered. The labor comes up at under an hour, so I think I am looking at ~$400 out of pocket. BMWNA was very efficient and helpful. +1 for them - I know a lot of other manufacturers make you jump through hoops to get anything done - with BMW, all it took was two e-mails and one phone call.
When I take it in on Friday, I might ask if the labor would be charged at warranty rates. |

Wow, that was easy...
Well I'm pretty impressed with BMWNA. I just purchased my 01 540 and it is definitely out of warranty. I sent them an email about the pixel issue and not 24 hours later got a call back. They didn't care that I wasn't the original owner or that the warranty had expired so long as I was willing to pay Concord BMW the hour’s worth of labor
They sent the info to the dealership and we got it done within 96 hours of the email going out. This is the way service is supposed to be! |

Got my cluster replaced and the dealer only charged me for 2/3 of an hour labor! And they installed my new amber side marker for free.
+1 for BMW of Norwood, MA |

What was the reason, mailbox full or username invalid? Just call BMWNA direct: 800-831-1117

This is what I used a couple of weeks ago... Leonora.Vlaovich@bmwna.com very quick response. But what was interesting is that the assigned rep from BMW that contacted me and asked some questions and also asked the BMW dealer to verify the pixel issue. The dealer told me not to even mess with BMWNA and just bring the car in. BMW covers the cost of the parts and all I pay will be the less than 1 hour of labor at BMW cost. Interesting....

Just got back from getting mine done...guy said that it was the worst one that he had ever seen.....Cost to me total was $497 with labor.....I'm stoked to have it done now I can see all the numbers....One thing that he did point out is that ALLOT of info goes threw that module and that can cause all kinds of phantom problems with the car, of which I was kind of having seems to be all cleared up

I e-mailed Leonara a week or two ago, she replied right away, I just replied yesterday and Sophia called me back to confirm some information. I am getting 100% parts covered, I just need to pay labor.
P.S. I am the second owner, I bought the car used from non-bmw used car dealer. P.P.S. She did ask me where I was missing pixels and I told her, pretty much in all 3 spots: mileage, temp, mid display. |

It would be interesting to add up all the savings made possible by this thread. Anyone wanna take a shot?

I sent an email to Ms Vlanovich and got a reply within the hour. A BMW rep left messages for me within two days and was persistent in trying to contact me (I was traveling). When we finally connected, the rep offerred me 100% on parts, I pay for labor. Given the age or my car (2000 M5, 51k miles) this is more than fair. After speaking the the rep, the dealer called within a day to schedule the appointment. I can't want to have this fixed! Thank you Dave! Eric

D*mn!! Turned on the car yesterday, pressed the trip computer button to cycle through the display and all of the sudden, 1 vertical line of pixels GONE!
Turned the car off, started it up 2 hours later and it was fine. Is this a normal? I assume it will just continue to deteriorate.. Thx. |

It will deteriorate. I had to bring it to the dealer when the issue occurs just to be documented, because if you bring it in when it's fine they won't replace it

Actually, they will replace it...all you need is BMWNA's approval and it will get done. Because of its intermittency, one might think that is the case but no worries. As you can see by the enormity of this thread and the number of folks getting this work done, it is a gimmie. Just make the call or send the email and get the process started!

Yesterday, I noticed my gas gauge/range seemed to be hovering at 1/2 tank and 200 miles ..after 460 miles after last fillup!! Lots of highway miles, but unlikely .. when I filled up, I was able to get 19.11 gallons in. I must have been running on serious fumes... |

I just got a call from Keith at BMW N.A., BMW is paying for 100% parts, and I pick up the labor. I couldn't have asked for more, especially since I purchased my car used, and it has ~70k on the clock.

I went through BMW NA as well. My 540 had 96,000 miles at the time. At first they wanted me to pay all of the labor - then they would split 50/50. Final cost $70 - same day service.
Repair is transparent - you can't tell that it is not the original panel. |
