Sour Milk odor
Last Friday I got into my car and there was a terrible odor. I couldn't find anything in the car but on Sunday I located the source under the rubber mat in the front passenger seat. It must be from spilled or leaked milk or some other fluid. I don't know when it happened but I need some advice on what I should do to get rid of the stench. I tried to clean it with a solution of dish soap and vinegar and water but that hasn't helped. I tookit to a car wash for a shampoo but the guy wasn't sure he could get rid of the smell. Will the dealer be able to do it? Is their some special cleaner such as used for pet problems?

I've used this before and it seems to do the trick. Some auto stores carry it, or get it online.
Meguiar's car odor eliminator Unlike most odor control products, this remarkable formula safely removes offensive odors and doesn't allow them to return again when the car interior heats up or gets wet. Other products either try to cover up the odor with a stronger fragrance that soon fades or they only provide temporary relief. Cars are a lot tougher area in which to control odors than homes. The space is compact, temperature extremes are common, high humidity conditions occur and moisture can be brought in due to rain or snow. Meguiar's Car Odor Eliminator is the proven way to instantly and safely remove strong odors such as smoke, sweaty workout gear, pet odor, food smells and more. And the compact 10-oz. bottle can be kept in the glove compartment to quickly deal with emergencies. G-2310 ....................10 oz. (296 ml) $2.99 |

I'd try spraying some Febreze on it. If that doesnt work, try diluting some Downy fabric softener (50/50 with water). Brush it on liberally and let it sit for awhile. Blot and repeat.
I have a distant relative (on my wife's side, I swear) that runs a pest removal business. Skunks are his specialty. As you can imagine, he deals with the occasional skunkspritzing. Fabric softener is what he uses to absorb the smell from his skin, tools and clothing. |

Hahaha, this reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when Jerry had that foul stench that they couldn't get out of his BMW...
"You don't understand what I'm up against. This is a force more powerful than anything you can imagine. Even Superman would be helpless against this kind of stench." - Jerry, describing the B.O. smell in his car, in "The Smelly Car" |
