I would buy the right X5 with mileage and sell my BMW out right.. The auto trader is good but BMW X5 are not the same.. I would get all the toy as you could get.. Also a 4.4 used sells around the same price as a 3.0.. the 4.4 will normally have more tpys than 3.0... I bought my first 3.0 and I thought it had toys till I started looking at this and other web sites and found at I bought the basic X5! I found that 4.4 V8, bigger tires, navigation, heated seats, high OBC computer, rain senors wipers, and xenons where well worth the extra bucks.. When you look in auto trader most sellers are dealers and they will work with you on the price as if you where in front of them...

The guy how's looking to get me to look at the 2001 x5 3.0 says this vehicle has all the toys except nav, even a sports package, I'll have to take a look at the car to make sure, also is it possible to retrofit a heated steering wheel?

Yes you can do almost anything for the right money...Checkout this website for more info on mods.. http://www.x5world.net/ I personally like navigation it makes the X5 look more sharp.. I know that navigation isn't very user friendly but it's the best BMW offers.. You can upgrade the screen and the navigation brain. Any BMW i would check a local BMW dealer to see/ read everything has been done on the X5. I would not buy anything that has more than 50k miles.. When you start driving the miles add up fast, look for down the road in resell... I would get the VIN number and call local BMW. Have you test driven both the 4.4 and 3.0? Gas mileage is about the same but the 4.4 power is great...

I haven't driven either vehicle, that's what I'm waiting for, I would like nav, but it's not a must, I just some more details on the 3.0, I drive a 2000 328ci, which only has I believe 189 hp, so a 225 is going to be an upgrade. The vehicle has 40K on it with, from what he told me so far, premium sound system, 6 disc changer, sports package, heated front and rear seats, sunroof, and maybe rear sun shades. Is the sports package a rougher ride? Also is the auto leveling suspension standard? The 2000 4.4 with 66K is supposed to have everything except nav.....

TusconX5- did you buy a used 2000 x5? If so when did you get it?

I think auto leveling is standard on 4.4 and a option on 3.0 most X5's didn't have rear heated seats... another option.. I have a non sport and it's fine for me.. So say it is rougher ride but again you have to drive them to see if you like one or the other.. resell of a sport X5 is more.. The X5 is heavier than your 328 and 3.0 is a fine engine but, I like the power of the 4.4.. I would wait for navigation but again I like the look and the interfaces the navigation screen gives..

I got my 00 X5 4.4 from Mercedes dealer using the auto trader out of CA, I had to drive to pick it up but I save big it only had 17K miles and had everything I wanted for $36K and no sales tax!!

The dealer wanted me to trade my 2001 X5 3.0 in on the deal but when I found that CA doesn't give any tax credit and the low amount for trade in I said no thanks.. I sold my 01 for $34K and took the two spare tires from both x5's and bought two new tires to make the sell go fast.. everybody loves new rubber..

Also you will find a non-BMW dealer and sometimes a BMW dealer don't take the time to look the car over for options.. they just don't know what to look for.. I think my dealer didn't know that my X5 had navigation until I point it out to the sales guy during the test drive the X5. It wasn't listed in the auto trader with navigation...

pardon my ignorance, but a sport packaged x5 sells for more than a regular x5? To tell you the truth if any of the bmw dealers offered me at least 20K for my car, I wouldn't mind doing business with them, but I know that's not going to happen.

as much as I would like the 4.4, I don' t think the one he has that's coming in with 66K is going to be a good deal for me unless I walk out paying like 5K for it after trade. The 3.0 with 40K sound good and walking out paying 10K isn't going to be so bad. Deep inside I prefer a 4.4, both these vehicle are silver color, even though I prefer white or black, but I don't think this guy is going to be able to find one for me. As for selling on my own, I'm a bit nervious because I don't want any random person coming to test drive my car unless they are serious about buying it.

BMW always trys to get you trade for less because they know how much to resell or if the miles are high they auction it off to protect their dealership becouse of the high miles... and their image

We all take risk in life like selling our BMW's ourselves, but that's why you can make more money on selling it yourself. If you have insurance and remember that 328 is just a item not a family member you'll do fine... It sounds like you trying to convince yourself this is the right X5 for you but I would wait till he or yourself finds a X5 you want. If you get what you want you'll keep it longer and making the payment is easier that way.. But the 3.0 with 40K if I had to get one today.. but it's up to you.. This website you'll find everyone will give you free advice all day long...

so if you had to get one today, you think the 3.0 with 40K miles is ok? I'm not in a rush, but weather here in KS is so unpredictable, I did do ok so far, but there is alway that what if....

Again if I had to get one today and everything option was the same on 4.4 and 3.0 but the 3.0 had 29k less miles I would go with the 3.0... and the option on the 4.4 I would look twice if It wasn't in the 3.0 but I would still take less miles over some options...Good luck!

I like the 3.0 with 45K on it great warranty.. Make sure the CPO is transferable to you.. Navigation YES.. it has everythign I would what in BMW.. the 4.4 has to many miles for me... 78K WOW and remember the price is asking and if you talk you may get it sell than asking? Never know.. I'd ask alot of question and ask him to work on the price... $33K with the warranty isn't bad... my2cents worth...

thx, I'll try to contact you once I get to drive and see the 2001 X5 3.0, not the one from autotrader, the one I mentioned in my latter post......are 20 inch rims weird for that model year? Also are they going to be useless in the winter weather? |

No 20" didn't come with a 3.0.. I think..17" are standard and 18" with sport package.. good luck with your purchase.. you can also checkout www.bmw-usa.com for what comes with what X5.. the years my be different but most things are still current.. There are some option changes but not many to not use the site>>>

Hey TusconX5, your are right, they put 20 inch aftermarket chrome rims, I have the vehicle for the weekend, and I definitely want an 4.4, if they sell my car I'll see what they can work out for me. Here are some pics, let me know your thoughts, it doesn't have all the features I wanted.......I'll try to take better pics in the morning....
