2005 X5 auto door lock question

Anybody with a 2005 X5, please try this and let me know if this happens to you, too. Don't lock your car after you turn off the engine and get out of your car. Then, go back inside, start your engine and drive. Does your driver's side door automatically lock when you are driving?
My X5 doesn't lock. I called BMW customer relations and they told me that just on the 2005 X5, when you get back into the car you need to press the unlock button when you are in park position and then the auto door locks will work. Please respond.

That's an option the dealer can program for you. They can program them to lock at a predetermined speed.

It's part of the Key Memory in your X5. Have your dealer program your X5 according the the memory form (see link below).

Unfortunately, the 2005 does behave this way.

My 2001 always autolocked.

My 2005 will not autolock if I just pulled the handle twice to get out in my garage. It will only autolock if you locked/unlocked using the remote or if you pressed the console mounted unlock button before exiting.

I do not like the change for 2005. I liked it better when it autolocked every time.

argh, that is soo annoying i hate this feature.
btw, for all 05 x5 owners, does your climate control always stay on when you first start your car? regardless if you turn it off when you exit? thanks bigfoot and others.

I have not shut off the climate control in the 2005 yet. I leave it on auto.

I did notice in my 2001 that if I changed the auto temp setting or any other climate control, it would revert to the previous setting when I restarted the X5. This often happened a few times before it "learned" my new preferences.

If you have not figured it out yet, the electronic "brain" of the X5 will never qualify for the automotive mensa society.

Thanks. I have a friend with an X5. I emailed the solution stated (Dealer Programing).

"Your vehicle is set in such a manner that, when you unlock the vehicle via remote control with your personalized key, your own setting for the automatic climate control is initiated"
You would need to program the setting each time via the seat memory buttons to retain the previous setting. The key remote sets the climate control to whatever setting you have programmed.

Having said that the "Key Memory" is not the most reliable of electronics. The software must have been written by ex-Microsoft people who were fired for putting too many bugs in the programs!

X5 Door Locks

My 2005 X5 was programed for all the doors to lock after initial driving. They lock at about tem miles per hour. I like this feature and my Z4 does this too.
