Working for a wharehouse now but trying to get a product I'm developing to market soon!! Why does it cost so much money for people who are struggling with bills to try and get a business started or get a patent!! Oh well.

In my case, I supervise the first line supervisors who supervise the professional workers.

The professional workers do the actual work.

The supervisors monitor, train, schedule, assign jobs, provide security reviews, rate and manage the performance of the professional workers.

I supervise the supervisors, train them, hold them accountable for their employees performance, hire, fire, promote and demote employees and supervisors, coordinate resources among the supervisors units, establish priorities and set goals, and generally run the office through the supervisors.

I also interact with upper management out of the office. I adjust office resources to meet organizational objectives, I maintain liasons with other operational components and with staff components, I meet and deal with out of office people. etc.

Hence, I am the middle manager between the first line supervisors who run my individual office and the upper management structure. I also communicate with my peers in other offices.

Or I did, until I retired.

I've always said, "A middle manager is a manger whose direct reports are managers and reports to managers" but I like your description much better.
