i8 with Wheel Bands styling to match BMW design team concept

Reality meets concept.

One of the first i8's delivered to Canada was immediately upgraded with a set of RimPro-Tec® Wheel Bands™. Most common reaction on the street is, "Awesome, I thought it came like that from the factory." The highly satisfied owner enjoys telling people he did the install himself in under an hour.

It's by design Wheel Bands look factory finish. The product is a precision dimensioned extrusion made in USA with OEM specified materials. It comes with a 2-year 100% satisfaction warranty.

More info on our website. For $30 off a full set of Wheel Bands use promocode: bimmerfest

Handsome. Sadly I have a grey i8 with the grey highlights. So my bare stock wheels already match.

When you get the RimPro-Tec@ Wheel Bands™ you are getting the best -- We're not some piece of tape on weatherstripping you can buy at PEP Boys for $20.

Here's another electric vehicle that we look good on. This is red track with black insert. For i8's in silver looking for a some protection against curb rash, a black track with silver insert looks attractive.

Nice. On the website, what color is the blue that matches the I8 blue? Is it "Dark Blue" or "Skygrabber Blue" ?
Thanks

"Sky -Grabber- Blue" is the match to the i8 or BMW badge blue. Here's a closeup...

BTW: We have a $20 bounty that we rebate for installations of Wheel Bands that are posted in forums :-)

Two questions:

1. What's the cost of materials and the cost of installation?

2. Does the band protect the wheel itself? How much?

(Whoops. That's 4 questions.)

Our MAP price on a kit like you would find at places like CARiD is $99. Our store is $119 but you can use the $30 off promo code (bimmerfest) above. Professional installation time is about 30 to 40 minutes (more if the wheel has a lot of tire shine to clean up). Tint and vehicle graphic shops charge (give or take) $100 for an install. (Any shop familiar with importance of surface prep for tape-on or painting will do a good job.)

2. Does the band protect the wheel itself? How much?

The product is like a 5 MPH bumper for the wheel. It does offer a level of protection from cosmetic type curb rash from parking curbs, drive through windows, car wash rails and ATM machines. The curb rash ends up on the easy to replace (or splice in a repair) Wheel Band rather than on the wheel paint finish or first 1 or 2 mm depth of aluminum. (The track and insert combination is about 6 mm thick of a durable impact modified plastic.) Some customers also use the product to cover up existing light curb rash.

(Whoops. That's 4 questions.)
Ha, that did take me longer to answer than I thought.

Thank you. Great product. I wish I had the blue highlighting on my car. If I did I'd get these wheel bands in a flash.

What's tire shine?

I am the owner of the i8 with the blue wheel bands. It is a great product. Very well made and a breeze to install. Tons of compliments on the appearance with everyone believing that they are factory stock. Jim of Wheel Bands offers wonderful service and I cannot recommend the bands and the company more highly.

The sky-grabber blue looks great. Just ordered mine two days ago, for my blue car.

Thanks for the photos -- and a little love for the i3 too

Thanks everyone for posting up your photos. Keep them coming. Looking great. Proof that the i8 design concept team had it right from the beginning. Like to think we are helping them feel vindicated.

Wanted to pass on a little love for the i3 too. Attached photos courtesy of of EVcarlife.

...Awesome! Thanks. Love the garter like flash of the seat belt via hiking up the door.

Now if we can sell another 7,999 more Wheel Bands sets we can think about getting an i8 for a company vehicle.

Recommend you wait 4 to 6 weeks when we roll out a new crystal blue closer to the Estoril Blue.

Right now, our Sky (Grabber) Blue is a match to the BMW logo and wheel center cap blue. Our standard "Blue" is on the purple side of blue...a match to Ford logo and wheel center cap blue.

Other option would be to go with a red insert as a complimentary color. You can swap out the inserts in a few minutes when another color becomes available. Here's what a red insert looks like on a blue paint job close to Estoril Blue.
