Interesting Calculation

I leased a 325i with luxury and auto last month. I put down $3890 and have made 1 payment of $345.83 (including tax). I just checked the buyout figure and it is $29,855.62.
The cars MSRP was $33570. so if I had bought it for list I would have paid $35,827.05 including tax and $75 DMV. If I bought the car now I would pay a total of $3890+$345.83+$29855.62 = $34091.45 or $1735.60 less than an MSRP buy. Also, I have earned some interest on the $29855 so this seems like a very good deal. I know the dealer has incentive money ( how much ? ) or they could not have done this deal.

I think you are overlooking the cost of breaking the lease. Usually, that cost equates to the present value of the unpaid lease payments. Once you factor that cost into the equation, you should be well over the MSRP.

Unless your portfolio is putting Messrs. Standard and Poor to shame, your $29855 is not doing better than the lease rate of 4.9% or 5.9% (depending on what lease you got). Furthermore, if you bought the car, you sell it in 3 or 4 years and make back a significant portion of the MSRP, enough to make the lease substantially more expensive overall than an outright cash purchase (this according to my calculations when I just bought; you might be running different numbers).

Last month.

The money factor for a 325i was .0008, which is equivalent to an interest rate of 1.92%..

This seems like a strange way to figure out what you paid for the car... Always negotiate a selling price first.. Then, get lease payments based on that selling price..

Your deal looks good, either way, though..
