Instrument Cluster

Does anyone have any instructions on pulling the instrument cluster out AND also pulling it apart? I am replacing the dial mat with a White one and need to know if there is anythign to look out for whilst doing the screen print replacement...

Cheers & TIA!

1) Pull of the small trim pieces on either side of the steering column.
2) 2 screws will be exposed.
3) Unscrew them and the cluster should wiggle out.
4) unclip the 3 connectors in back of the cluster
5) cluster should come out.
6) About ~10 or so screws seal the cluster.
7) It should pop open fairly easy after you remove the screws.

Thanks Bill! How do I get the needles off sir? Is it just a matter of levering them off or like MB's do I need to worry about the back end motors coming apart (Benzes have some sort of wave loaded compression spring within their setups that come flying apart if you are not careful...)? Thanks

These are VDO's. If you have a flat head screwdriver with a v in the middle of it I would use that otherwise gently tug straight up. You do not want to break the pins. You might also want to remove the stop pin first to get an idea of where the needle lies in its true 0 state.
