I miss the X5

Well, after two weeks now with the 3er, I have to say I love it. It's fun to drive, and it's much more involving than the X5. But there's some element missing... I miss the X5! Every time I see one cruising down the 393 I look at it and think... dayummm, I miss that. Don't get me wrong, the 330xi is a fantastic car. There's nothing wrong with it. BUt the X5 was just such a cool car/SUV/SAV, whatever... It was so fast, everything was so effortless about it... You could easily be cruising along the highway, look down at the speedo and crap yourself because you're doing 90-100+... I miss having all the toys on the X5, too. I also feel like now I'm not part of the community here, and I miss that. Now I'm probably going to get some flaming for acting spoiled, or whatever, but... I'm not trying to be spoiled. I just loved that car!

Try calling MTV's "Pimp My Ride". They'll get some toys on for ya!

Have you had the chance to do the 330xi in snow yet? Turns out I'm keeping my X5 for me, will prolly buy a 330xi for wifey this year. Let me know your experiences in northern NE bad weather.

Kidding, of course. Hey, I've already decided that if Bangle does not screw up the next X5, I will stick with this car. It's got class, luxury, speed, safety, great handling, PLUS lots of space. I LOVE my X, and would hate to give it up. We understand.

I hear ya CJ! I love my X every time I drive it. It's just one of the most surefooted and safe feeling cars I have ever owned. So what have your friends said about it? What about the chicks, are they impressed with the new ride?

As I just got rid of mine, I completely agree.

I miss the whole SUV thing. (although it always seemed to have too small a cargo area for what I needed)...

Driving around yesterday in traffic, stuck with headlights in my eyes, feeling confined by not being able to see around the millions of SUVs around me - it sucked and I missed being up high...

But, I was also able to out-handle those SUV's.....

I drove the 330 in the snow we had (I think) two Wednesdays ago... It was two weeks ago, or so. I only had the stock tires on, but it did pretty well. Stopping was a bit unpredictable, and it slipped and slid on corners, but the DSC (and some snow-driving experience) kept it manageable. I haven't had a chance with the snows on, but I'm sure it will be impressive. I think it would be a great car for your wife...
I think I'll get a chance to test it on Thursday... Light to moderate accumulation, I hear.

The 330 feels safe, but there was something so solid and reassuring about being in the X5... It felt like getting into a bank vault every time you closed the doors. My friends love the 330, and they like it better than the X5 for the most part. It attracts wayyyyyyyyyyy more chicks than the X5 ever did...

Lb for lb the X5 must have the smallest cargo of all SUVs. Whatever they do in the next gen. X5, hope they don't give us runflats to rid of spare tires.

I like driving the 330xi... It's practical, small, and it gets good mileage. But the X5 was fun partly because it was so impractical (for me), huge, and a gas guzzler... It's different driving way the hell down there.. I definitely liked being high better. The problem I have, mainly, is turning onto roads or going across them when I don't have a green light... for example, at a stop sign or a right turn on red... If there's a truck or SUV in the lane next to me, I can't see around it like I could in the X5. Also, since it's winter, the huge snowbanks on the roadside are pretty dangerous... They block vision considerably. To get out far enough to see if there are cars coming, you practically have to be in the middle of the road.

The dealer just took the car with everything on it... I have no idea what they did with the exhaust. I would have had the things removed, but I didnt go to the dealer that day expecting to get a new car, so I didn't even think about getting them removed.

Well I'm attracting a lot more people in general... It's actually kind of disgusting how many new "friends" a BMW will get you at my age.

Well, I'm not as old as some of the guys, ie. UncleMotor. But it's ok for us old geezers to look at the odd chick here and there, right?

I know how you feel. When I sold my 01 4.4 I went through serious withdrawl. And I have never been able to put my finger on exactly why. It guzzled gas, was always having some stupid fault and trips to the stealer, etc. etc.
I didn't have the time to maintain it so I sold it and bought japanese, the FX45. After a week of owning the FX45, I was miserable. I wanted my X back. Every where I looked in Los Angeles, people were driving their X5's and smiling and I was uncomfortable and feeling weird in my Infiniti.
After a year I finally broke, I couldn't handle it anymore. My car is where I relax and enjoy the road, and that feeling was gone. I took a huge loss, sold the car, ran, not walked, and put my ass back in the seat of an X5.
I have returned to my daily smile.

On another note, my bro who is also a BM***hile, was shocked when I told him today, that for even money, I wouldn't trade my 4.8is for a new M5 or new M6.

Maybe I'm crazy or just getting older... But man I love that truck...
