It just gets better......

Ok, yes I did RTFM, but I guess NVFW (Not Very F****** Well )

I just "discovered" Sport mode on my Steptronic. I read about a Sport mode in various posts here at Bimmerfest, but figured mine didn't come equiped with it since I didn't see a button, icon, etc.. I won't go into how I came to figure it out, but it really makes a difference and is actually useful (unlike the sport-mode button in my old Saab 900). I feels like it adds torque too not just delays shifting, but what do I know.... Well, this post may not be helpful to others, but I thought I'd share my happy dance -

Cheers!

Congrats on finding it out. Just curious, didn't the dealer point this out during the test drive? This should be, as far as I'm concernted, one of the first thing's they would show you about the car once you start driving.

Yeah, you would think the SA would have shown me.... or maybe he did mutter something about it ... anyway I only remember being shown how the "Manu-matic" works.

In the excitement of bringing the baby home, sometimes what is mentioned by the SA doesn't quite register...I've been there! BTW, there are also things mentioned in the video that are not mentioned or covered fully in the manual. They did give you a video, didn't they?

There's a sport mode? Can someone kindly teach me how to access it?

Its like manumatic. Shift the shifter over to the left, but don't start tapping up and down to change gears. If you do this, you're in sport mode (An S appears where the gear numbers would be in the dashboard). Basically this lets the engine rev to higher RPMs before upshifting, and is a little more aggressive when downshifting. Enjoy

I, too, had to figure this out on my own. I was lucky my sales guy knew how to start the ignition. He didn't know about the sport mode, key memory, or even how to start the automatic windshield washers.

I now drive almost exclusively in sport mode and use manual mode more often than you would expect. My little 325 vert has quite a bit of pep if I rev it up to redline.

Yes, I'm sure that's probably what happened- as soon as I saw my 325i pull up from the inventory lot, I basically forgot about the preceeding 2 hours

And they did send me home witha video, but it was a VHS cassette, which I don't have a player for anymore (does anyone?) I hope the '06's on will get a DVD
