Programing power seat settings into my key fob

Hello everyone,

Today I took delivery of my new 05 X3 and I can't figure out how to program the power seat settings into my two key fobs. I did have this feature activated at my dealer, he had me walk through it at the dealership by inserting the key into the ignition, select #2 seat position and program my set settings into memory. But when I change the seat settings, lock the vehicle and unlock it with my now programmed key fob it doesn't return the seat settings.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Jeff

I believe you need two keys to accomplish what you wish. Key # 1 remembers what your programed settings are only after the vehicle is locked and someone else opens the vehicle with another key. If the second key is inserted into the ignition and a seat position is memorized and the vehicle is locked again Then when you access the vehicle with Key #1 it will remember the seat settings for that key. Open with key #2 and it will change the seat programed for Key#2. Thats the way it was explained to me.

And indeed I just went out to the garage and tested it myself and thats the way it works.

Why does BMW have to get so complicated?

Here's how that system works and how to use it...

The memory seat buttons are separate from the Key Memory. The Key Memory returns to the last settings from when that key was last used when the doors were locked and unlocked. So to use both systems together, start car and do this:

1. Driver 1 gets in and sets all settings as desired, presses M on seat then memory button 1.
2. Test the setting by pushing memory 1 to see if anyting moves. If nothing moves, you're fine.
3. Lock all the doors and unlock. This sets the Key Memory to that setting, which is now the same as memory button 1.
4. Driver 2 gets in and does the same, but for memory button 2.

The Key Memory can be set at remote unlock, so when Driver 1 presses the unlock button on their key, the position saved above is activated. Same thing happens when Driver 2 presses the unlock button on their key.

The other Key Memory setting is at door open.

In total, you can have more than 3 settings- 3 from the seat memory and one for each key you have.

Question need help with program key to move seat to my preferences

I tried the procedure but it failed to program my key to my seat settings. I have my seat setting preference in memory 1 by adjusting the seat (and mirrors and steering wheel) to my preferences and then, with the key on the ignition, pressing the M button followed by the 1 button. I then tried your recommended procedure with the key so that, when I unlock the car with the key remote, the settings go to my preferences. I removed the key, locked and unlocked the car.

Then I took a second key (key 2) and I moved the seat settings to a new setting (call it memory 3), got out and locked the door. When I then unlocked the car with Key 1 remote, the seat did not move from the M3 settings!

Any recommendations from here?
