330 Conv or MB CLK 430 Cab?

Hello guys - long time no post.

I am soon in the market for another vehicle - have my heart set on a convertible this time. Think I've narrowed it down to a slightly used 330 Conv or a slightly used MB CLK 430 Cab.

Any expieriences and/or comparisons? I had a friend w/a 325 Conv - nice car - drove it many times. Anyone out there have a MB CLK? Thoughts? Likes and dislikes?

I get the impression the MB is a bit bigger - BUT - measurements show otherwise (go figure).

Let me know.

Thanks

CLK is a good looking car, but other than being a hot rod it handles like an E class, i.e. not that well, especially compared to a 330.

I'd go for the 330, and if bling is yo thang, get an Mtech kit and go for some sweet 18 wheels, either the ZHPs or the Mtech Mesh (I think that's what they're called).

Cheers, and let us know what you get.

The inevitable question: sport or non-sport

On the subject of the 3 series - I found a Orient Blue '02 Conv - reasonable miliage & price. But it does not have the sport pkg. I seem to remember reading a road test where the reviewer claimed it to be 'floaty' without the spt pkg. Would a proper wheel/tire pkg tighten it up significantly WITHOUT changing the suspension?

Hmm, I'd pick 330 cab over CLK 320 cab but not sure about the V8 in this case. It's close call. The bimmer has better handling but the benz has more power.

Not sure Although performance wheels with sticky tires are one of the best performance changes you can do for the money.

I don't think BMW has ever made a car that's "floaty", even w/o SP and extra weight of the cab. But of course performance tire/wheel package wouldn't hurt.

CLK430 is the previous generation. I drive the current generation CLK320 fairly regularly and it's not a driver's car from a handling perspective. It doesn't hug the road like a BMW and is not as satisfying. It's more of a cushy car.

How YOU doin' buddy? That is a good question. The woman has never liked my trips to Vegas, so I might be on lockdown. But now my buddies are talking Thailand or Macau?!?! Somehow I think it might be a hard sell....

Are you a manual or automatic driver ? If the answer is manual, then you know it can only be the BMW, since you can't get the MB with a manual.

Handling-wise, no comparison, on the twisties BMW will eat the MB as a Bavarian breakfast.

Both are heavy cars (compared to their coupe versions), but driving the MB is like running on an air cushion on wheels.

Go and test drive, that's only way to tell.

Thanks guys

Most of my driving is highway - I am aware of the handling advantages of the 3 series vs. the CLK. It's my dilemna - V8 torque vs. handling advantage. I'll be driving both next weekend and hopefully making up my mind shortly thereafter.

Thanks
