Coolant Issue X3 2.5l

Has anyone had any issues with coolant on their X3? I've added 1 cup of water and 1 cup of coolant in the past 3 months. I get a faint smell of coolant outside the car after its run for awhile.

I've had the plastic and metal skid plates off and have looked with a light all around the engine from below and above. No sign of any coolant leaks. Did oil change recently and the used oil had no evidence of coolant contamination.

The only other place I can think of would be the transmission (auto). No dipstick for it (dealer stated system sealed 100k maintenance).

If under warr., have Stlr do a pressure test on cooling sys., though I've had 2 done and they still won't cough up on "where does the coolant" go, lol! They tell me things are "fine".

Not X3 specific: there have been a plethora of posts on disappearing coolant in X5s and some in X3s, and other BMW models, too.

I've been told it's "normal" by both Stlrs; however, on long road trips I carry a pint of pre-mixed coolant to add. My X5 has used couple of gallons of mix over its 3 1/4 yrs and 37K mile life.

Successful fixes that I've read, have included new reservoir, or new water pump, or new cap, etc.

Surprised no one on the X3 board jumped on this.

A diligent/intelligent Stlr should be able to diagnose this fairly common situ, though I've been unable to find a dlr that resembles that person,lol!
