Disclaimer: I'm am not about to drive my X3 like I drove HMMWV's in the military.
With that said, anybody have any cool experiences going off the road in their X3?

Off road in an X3
I don't know if this qualifies, but last month we went to Joshua Tree NP. There are restrictions on going off approved roads, but the Geology Tour Road is unimproved. Parts were flooded or washed out from the recent storms. With the stock tires, our X3 did extremely well. It is a 2.5 with steptronic and no sport pkg.. I tried the HDC, but found the manual shifting of the steptronic to be all that was needed. Ground clearance was sufficient, but I steered around some of the bigger rocks and holes. It was a lot of fun, and we able to get to places we could not not have visited with a sedan, even if it had 4WD.

Other than the lack of significant ground clearance, the X3 is extremely capable off road. The underbody is nearly completely sealed and X Drive system works quite well.
