Well, they have the luxury of hoisting the car up securely. Mine was on a jackstand and it was rocking violently with the force of the rubber mallet blows.

My rubber mallet now has some permanent dents in it as a result.

The clamp method - it's easy, elegant, quick - I hope it works for you as beautifully as it did for me.

And BTW you may need that clamp to push the pistons back in the calipers, too... (after first removing the top from the fill-in reservoir near the firewall).

Well, its done.

adc, I used your idea but took it to the other direction... I actually used the clamp to pull the rotor out instead of pushing it in. It is a little more complex but still, very simple.

It worked like a charm. No banging, no hammer, no risking damaging the bearings. There is no way I could explain what I did, so here is the picture
