My First Post.

Hi everyone,

I just put an order for a new 2005 BMW X3 2.5i. It has the premium package,activity package and the mettalic paint. The only option i did not get was the sport package which i find to be very rough. The price came to $52,000 Canadian. I got them to go down another $1500 for me so $50,500 was not a bad deal compared to 3.0i i priced out at $57,000 Canadian.

I just could not justify the $6500 difference between the 2.5 and the 3.0 litre engines. I test drove them both and to be honest with the 6 spd i couldn't feel the 1 sec. difference.

My question is, the dealer told me the 2.5i actually has 192HP not 184HP. He also told me that BMW was down playing the HP rating on the 2.5i. They did not want the HP rating too close to the 3.0i. Is there any truth to this? Because European specs does state 192HP.

I just traded my 2002 MB C230 for this car, my first BMW ever.

Not all horsepower are rated the same. Here in Germany my X3 is rated at 231 PS, this same car is rated at 225 in "US" hp. It has to do the way they calculate their horsepower. Same goes with torque, they use newton meter (NM) with some outrages numbers. Maybe were you live you use that same metric system. Be sure you have the same as we all do..

What do they rate the 3.0 in Europe? 233 HP?

Horses in the US are bigger, so it take fewer of them to compare to the power of a X3

Iceberg....My wife has had Benzes for many, many years. She also just traded her E320 for a 2005 X3.0 and could not be happier! She absolutly loves the ride and the road feel of the vehicle. This is our first Bimmer and are very pleased. My MINI Cooper S is my daily driver, but I do not count that as BMW. I also have a 2001 SL 500. However, I am waiting the new M5 to come out and take a look at that. Different cars....different rides. But the X3.0 sure is sweet!!! Also, welcome to the forum...
