Snow trip
My wife and I went for a two day snowboarding trip up at Kirkwood, CA the last few days and it snowed one night with somewhere between 10" - 14" accumulation. The X3 handled brilliantly on the snow covered roads. I mostly used the manual mode of the steptronic and I must say that with it's handling and being able to control the rpm on slippery roads, driving in this conditions seemed effortless and the steering precise. Of course the new tires are a big fat plus as well.
I am stoked at how this vehicle performed well. We used to drive a Freelander and that held it's own but the X3 is a far better engineered vehicle IMO.here's a couple pics... ![]()

I'm planning a trip up to the German Alps in a couple of weeks and was debating if I should get snow tire. I know snow tires are better but Xdrive makes all seasons work much better. I will carry along some snow chains just in case,, you never know

There is a new development going in up the road from me and they have not plowed the dirt road in quite a while.
I took both the X3 with stock tires and my 330Xi with snow tires around the development and the X3 kicks the 330xi's but! The AWD in the 330xi wants to bog down (stalled a couple of times) when the going gets tought but the X3 wants to keep going and going and going. And the HDC on the X3 is a lot more subtle than the 330xi. You really can't tell the X3 has HDC activated but the 330xi is loud and the car shakes a bit. Must be a different technology...
