E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993.

1987 325is too high of revs, help?

I have a 1987 e30, 325is. I've drove it as a part time car for the last two years. Just recently after the engine warms up it will not idle corretly. The idle will range from 2000 plus, to stalling out. Especially if I just push it a little bit. When driving I could swear that I had the cruise control on this week, the engine just did not want to drop down after I got off the highway. Also it seems a little bit of a loss of power at lower rpms, 3000 and below, plus a little chugging until about 3000rpms.

And the really strange part is that one of the air vents between the hood and windshield was blowing out some smoke the other day (drivers side,) it smelled like greenboard/plastic/wiring.

Any anwsers? Obviously a problem with the intake to start with, but I thought that I would see if anyone else had an idea?

Colinksee.

Colinksee.

Air Flow Meter would create the symptoms you describe. And it is electrical , and on the driver's side. If your not familiar with troubleshooting electrical, i would take it to the mechanic(Independent).

Good luck!

Thanks for the info,

I'll check out, but isn't the airflow meter between the filter and the throttle body? Just wondering because the electrical smoke was not coming from exactly from there. When I would turn on my heater it would blow into the car. If you have the chance maybe you could explain this is a little more details. My other cars are a '71 Plymouth duster and a '74 MG Midget, they are a little easier to work on than this one, hardly any electrical to deal with on those, but the bimmer is still my favorite. Regardless I would enjoy any more input on this matter before I have to take it into the import shop in my town when I might be able to fix it myself.

Thanks
Colinskee
