Finally Raced my cousins new Carrera S

My cousin just bought the new 05 Carrera S, it is an awesome car I must admit. I liked his his car very much. We raced quite a few times last night, be from a dead stop, roll or highway speeds and my 330 ZHP with ASA Supercharger on it pulled on it every time. Not by much but it did either pull or stay ahead every time. I was pleased with my 3 series car, thanks to the SUpercharger there was not letting up in powr or pull all the way to Redline and as teh RPM'S climbed the car just got stronger and stronger where the pulls just got harder and the car managed to keep its pull on the Carrera S and even pull more as we went further. Was happy with my 3 series We didn't have the chance to go to high of speeds, we will try it at the track this weekend and do the quarter mile but until 130 the BMW kept the Porsche Carrera S in it's rear view Mirror the whole time

I'm guessing he isn't worried about the 2k mile break in period on his new CS...shouldn't rev ove 4k rpms nor stress the engine.

I'll have a DYNO done within a few days time.. I'm expecting at least 300 at the wheels, hopefully.

Porsches have always been broken in at the factory. You can burn rubber right out the doors.

Agreed. There's just no way. Not without a major overhaul of all critical systems... not the least of which is tires. You can't just drop a supercharger into a 330 and make it outrun a Porsche.

...right? I mean you can't, can you?

No. That supercharger will have to make in excess of ~150hp to make the chase even.

997 Carrera S: 3,000 lbs, 325hp.

330i: 3,300 lbs, 235 hp.

I know of someone with a similar ASA supercharger and HIS supercharger is tuned to the tilt, and it makes about 70 hp.

This is a clear case of the M-Pilot syndrome.

It's all about the driver. I outhandled an SL65 AMG (yes, that new $186,000.00, 604hp V12 biturbo roadster) on some twisties two days ago. The guy almost spun the SL65. Moron. (sounds unbelievable, but yeah, it was true.)

When it comes to straight-line, I didn't have a chance - and I knew that. I think that if the 997 driver was an absolutely awful driver, and couldn't shift properly, that 3 may have kept up.

Just for the record the Carrera S has 350hp and does 0-60 in 3.8 seconds per R&T magazine.

You do have a point an amateur drive in a very fast car can loose easily to an experienced driver in a slower car. All and all he did say that he remained on the Porsche's rearview mirror and thats where i would expect him to remain.

But how's the Porsche geared? Much higher than the BMW, I suspect.

Nope... if they say 3.8 it's a big mistake. They probably quoted Porsche (0-62 in 4.8 I think).

I don't think that car goes under 4.5-4.6 to 60, no matter what...

Actually the 911 Carerra S is: 3130lbs (stick), 355HP, 295lbs-ft torque, geared to 182mph.

It could have higher gearing and lower torque than a SC 330, so who knows?

On a different note, does anyone have more info on the "Cayman S" model so misteriously presented on the Porsche USA website? Could it be the new Boxster Coupe?

I am pretty sure C&D and R&T both got below the 4s with the new carrera S, at least one got in the upper 3s. Non-s not much slower, lower 4s

edit: magazine that tested it in 3.8s said they put in on a dyno to confirm that it wasnt a ringer too

On this thread, he posted a Dyno of 291 RWHP, and 252 Torque:

http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=240090

Make your own conclusions. I don't know enough about the Porsche to say if he's full of sh!t or not...

Either way, I think these numbers are pretty nice for an otherwise stock 330 engine. It's pretty cool what a well tuned SC setup can put out.

I don't know about the validity of the race but Porsches engines aren't "pre-broken-in" as he said in a previous post. Depending upon the model, it ranges from 1400 to 2000 miles. As a Boxster and 993TT owner, I've had a little experience with Porsches and he's just wrong. With that said, maybe he did beat his cousin if the cousin wasn't reving his new 997S above 4k rpms.

291 at the wheels was best run, not great but not bad. 320 would be great, if Rennsport could get the software tuning done on this car done it should do 320

Yeah, if you drop both off of a cliff there's a slim chance the BMW may win.
