Ok so last weekend I removed my A/C belt just to see what it was like bacause I am considering removing my hole A/C system cause what do I need air conditioning for I have a convertible and it doesnt work anyway. the Idea had been presented to me by a friend who had done it. there is a definite power increase in the lower rpms. its a great easy mod and a free one too

I've had my '04 cabrio for over a year, and I think I've used my air conditioner maybe two or three short times. Once was just to test how well it worked. I just can't seem to drive with the top up!

My belt is gone so I don't really use it. But I need to remove the whole thing.

I guess i could defrost with the heater from now on, but I have a sedan, and its gunna get hot.

How much power was gained? I'm not looking for numbers, just a more detailed description of the feel.

I personally think your HP gains are fantasy.

if you know anything about the way the AC compressor works you would know that when the AC is NOT in use, the compressor hub freewheel's and just spins with no drag on it. When the ac compressor is activated, an electric clutch system engages the compressor, Thats that click sound you should remember hearing when the AC turns on.

So unless you are constantly using the AC, removing the belt does nothing for you. The ac rotor spins pretty freely when not engaged.

try it out.
