How do I locate my Bluetooth Passkey?

I got no documentation of Bluetooth in my 2005 X5. But I know it's there after I do the set-up as my phone locates it. But my phone also asks for the Bluetooth Passkey prior to allowing me to link it to the vehicle. But I can't locate this passkey anywhere in/on my vehicle. Anyone here found the passkey code on their vehicle somewhere?

Thanks.

I have the passkey card in my owners manual but I don't know how to check if I have bluetooth or not. I have a sony k700i phone and I don't have nav.
If you have the card with the passkey #, then you most likely have the bluetooth ULF module installed. Your phone should work fine with it although there is no snap in adapter available for it yet.

2004 vs. 2005

The posts in this thread may mislead some as two different model years are being discussed. There are some exceptions to this general rule, which applies to US-bound BMWs (except 6 and 7 series) equipped with either PP with BMW Assist or with separately ordered BMW Assist:
The MY 2005s assembled on or after 09/04 have working Bluetooth; the MY 2004s may have BT labels or cards but the factory BT does not work in these vehicles.
There is a very good article in the current BMWCCA Roundel, and the latest technical bulletin has been posted here and elsewhere. They confirm my general rule.

Bluetooth Pass Key

Just picked up my X5 and there was no card with the passkey. My salesman told me I'd need to come in and have the service dept hook up a laptop and find the code. I looked on this site and found the info posted above and it worked like a charm. The only difference was that my unit was a Motorola and the code was listed like this:
PK: ####
It just isn't spelled out "Blue Tooth Pass Key". Just thought I'd add that and Thanks to the folks that posted previously.

BlueTooth Passkey

If you are buying your BMW used and don't know the history there is one more item that can throw you a curve ball.

In my 2005 X5 we have had to have the TCU replaced for Inop BMW assist. When the TCU is replaced the bluetooth passcode changes. There is suppose to be a new label that comes with the TCU. So, if the tech didn't stick the new label on you will have to have the PK number read or call the selling dealer with the VIN and they should be able to have a record.

(We went through 3 TCU's due to the "red" light on the dash illuminating continuously, BMWAssist Inop. I finally complained about the PK sticker and they placed it on the card in the glove box. All other service times they were placing the new sticker on the service paperwork that remained in their files :tsk:

Dropped by my local dealer today. They were able to look up my code through computer connection. 5 mins in/out. Better than tearing up the trunk and your knucles!

The passkey code can be read by connecting the car to the dealer's shop computer through menu option "Diagnostic Requests / Bluetooth Code" when DIS software 41 (March 2005) or newer is installed on the shop computer.

My wife recently purchased a previously owned X5. There was a 4-digit number written on the inside cover of several manuals but apparently, the manuals came from another vehicle! Joined this forum, performed a search and came accross this thread. I located the correct Bluetooth Passkey exactly where "King" said it would be (see Reply #2). The module is hidden under a black plastic piece on the floor of the trunk by the spare tire. You'll have to remove 3 screws to gain access. My sticker, however, read FK****. Hope that helps the next FNG.

I also didn't get any documentation with my BMW about my passkey either so I have referenced this thread to try and figure it out. I have a PDF copy of the BMW Universal Bluetooth Handsfree System (ULF) and it advised me to hold down the send/recieve (little face) button for one second, start my car, continue holding for two seconds, and the display with show that my car is in pairing mode. Unfortunately I cannot proceed to the next steps because my car does not recognize bluetooth at all. I have tried every little thing to make it work and it doesn't. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? It is a black '06 330i.

Also, in order to find the passcode, do you have to actually remove that black plastic piece from the trunk pan by unscrewing the screws securing it?

I would greatly appreciate any help I can get!

Passkey Update

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I am assuming you are trying to get the 4 digit code to link your cell phone to the vehicle. I have a new 2010 X5 and when I synched my iPhone, it asked for a passkey. I typed 0000 which is usually the default for most bluetooth systems. It immediately took the passkey and everything worked great. I also noticed that (thru the iDrive system) you can go into settings and manualy set your own passkey. hope this helps.

Hi Everyone,
I gave up looking when my auto a 2006 Z-4 was in for regular service I asked my service writer to get it working. He brought the hot shot mechanic out who at first looked all over the car and found nothing. They took it in back and hooked something up and I ended up with the passkey no. It was worth the tip. Some of the dealers wanted as much as $70 to get blue tooth working. It sure is nice to have..

Yes, this is possible. You can check by performing the procedure in the first reply. All you need is a screwdriver. Look for the Bluetooth module in the rear.

Oh that sucks. Try 0000? At least you found the module...
