E46 License Plate Screw
Anyone know what size (thread) screws are used for E46 license plates? I need to find a pair thats just a tad longer than the factory screws to intall my trunk grab handle, which sandwiches between the car and the license plate.

can't remember the exact size, but they are Metric and I just took one to the local Ace hardware store and matched it with one a bit longer... in SS.

According to the ETK, the factory screw is M5X8, assuming the m stands for metric.

M5 is the standard license plate screw thread. The length depends on the car. The stock M5x12s in the back of my touring are just a bit too short for my new license plate frame so I'll eventaully get some nice M5x16 stainless steel button head screws from McMaster-Carr.

I assume the grab handle is for closing the trunk? In which case, couldn't you dispense with that and simply reach inside the trunk lid, grab the indentation, and use that to close the trunk? That's what I've been doing since reading about it here. Helps keep fingerprints off the finish.

Yeah, its kind of a PITA though, gotta reach in and up, and yank down, while pulling your arm away so it doesnt get caught
