Delphi XM MyFi use in the 01 330ci
Has anyone had any experience with the new XM Satellite Delphi XM MyFi? I would like to purchase the system, but I'm not sure about the built in FM transmitter interaction with the factory head unit, esp. here in the DC area, i.e., annoying fluctuations, etc.

Why don't you install a Aux-in cable? That way you can skip the FM transmitter.

I'm not up on auto audio equipment, esp. BMW. Any recommendations on installation? Can a quality auto audio shop do it or should I take it to the dealer? Or is it something I can do myself? Any info is appreciated

I thought the install was pretty easy. But if you are not inclined, I imagine the dealer or a radio shop could do it. The part (Aux-in cable) is about $50, and it takes about 30 minutes to install.

The 2001 E46 does not have an option for an Aux in. Only radios with a mode button instead of the CD button have that option (which appeared in late 2002). I was in the same situation and decided to order a radio from eBay out of a 2004 E46, and the aux in kit from Bavarian Auto Parts. Everything works great. The biggest hassel was making an antenna adapter to go from the Old Euro style antenna to the new euro style.
