The clutch is not covered in any warranty?

I was told by my service center that the clutch as a wear item is not covered in any type of warranty, is this true? I seem to remember someone mentioning their clutch replaced under warranty here. If this is the case, what's the approximate cost to replace a clutch using genuine bmw parts? (e46 330i)

I believe starting in 2002, the clutch is covered under Maintenance. In 2003 Maintenance was expanded from 3/36K to 4/48K. For MYs before that you're out of luck. It's what I recall but I could be wrong.

A clutch is only covered if there is no sign of abuse. You could find yourself in an interesting situation if they start to take things apart and realize you beat on the car and the clutch is fried because of abuse.

I just got my clutch replaced a couple weeks ago under warranty. However, on the invoice it said "Remanufactured Clutch". Anybody know what that means?? They don't replace with a new OEM clutch?

So what's the estimated cost to replace one without warranty?

It means that they took a used OEM clutch and change out the things that failed and supposedly made it "good as new".

This is standard procedure for many parts replaced under warranty. When my radio failed in my 318ti I also got a remanufactured radio. VW did the same thing when my alternator failed in my Corrado.

The clutch should be replaced under the service warranty only if no signs of "abuse" are shown. If its normal wear than it shouldnt be a problem, my dealer tried to bs me on this once but after i showed them a bmw book they quickly reversed their position and said it would be covered under warranty.
