Wow, great read! I've always wanted to get a good review of an E30 M3 from someone who hadn't driven one before. I haven't even ridden in one yet, but I'm still considering buying one...eventually.

Best quote IMO...

Quote:
Lots of grip is all well and good, but if you can't feel it, take hold of it between your fingers and s-q-u-e-e-z-e it out of the chassis then you're missing out on one of driving's great pleasures. Surely it's better to have a marginally lower but infinitely more malleable limit than one that offers sky-high cornering speeds but lose-rise tactility?
Makes me want to go out and finally buy that E30 M3 right now before they get even harder to find.

M3 vs. M Coupe

Have not driven a e30M3 but have been in a bunch of them on the track in capable hands, and have run my 02 M Coupe at speed on the street and on the track.

Have driven most of what is out there, and the 02 M Coupe is among the easiest most progressive cars to drive hard I have ever owned, and the includes the classic four wheel drifter, the original 2002. I can slide the hell out of the M Coupe, and the worst I get for it is very slight understeer. Have heard that the earlier ones were prone to sudden oversteer, but mine is simply not. If anything, I had to trail brake deeper than I do in my 3 series. Fastest way around a track is to not waste a lot of time sliding, but if you are a little to fast mid corner, it is no big deal (assuming you have the room at track out). New M Coupe is a ***** cat on the track.

This article

prompted me to switch from my old E30 M3 to my new M Coupe - that was over 2 years ago!! Dont regret it for an instant but I loved that E30 and still go all dewy-eyed thinking about it!!

I worked in Holland and Germany at the time and it was just the best car to have on those autobahns and fast A roads.
