While you're in there I would. I would also suggest looking into the UUC DSSR. With the shift level out, the install is already half done. I am very impressed with mine. Reduced 98% of the play in my shifter, and feels outstanding.

i felt the m5 shifter compared to my 540i shifter and i was not impressed in the least. I couldnt tell the difference. I was about to buy the m5 shifter but ive decided to try the e36 m3 shifter now since it makes the throw even shorter than the m5. Id be interested in seeing how you like yours.

Make sure to replace the plastic bushing that fits around the ball (pivot point) of the shifter. Thats about all you need to replace other than the lever.

Agreed with everything stated above. The M5 shifter compared to the 540 shifter has almost no advantage. If you are going to go through the trouble of paying someone else or doing the install yourself you should go with the e36 M3 or the Rogue Engineering. Here is my install thread.
