March 24th pickup day number 1

Day 1--After spending 12hrs between plane and lay over I finally arrived in Munchen. The train ride took exactly 1hr as noted in the ED map 9am to 10am. The train ride was 16euros for two and by the way my ticket was checked by the train patrol. YES; THE BELL STILL DOES NOT RING SO YOU HAVE TO GO AROUND FOR THEM TO LET YOU IN: The highlight of the arrival was these two old men who starting speaking to us in german as we dragged our suitcases through the streets torwards the ED center. After realizing that we did not speak the language, one of the two old men started signalling in a turning steering wheel form and shouted BMW, BMW as to signal us where to go. That was really cool. I happened to run into all the bimmerfest members FQ; FQS FRIEND; BLUEROCKET; PAUL4BMW; AND MYSELF picking up with me. we were going to take a group picture in frot of our cars, but my delivery took longer than usual as it was really busy. 150 cars delivered today and 30 were ED. After going through the entire process I drove away in my ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE. What a feeling to do so and not get lost with the help of my Nav. system. The system is a must. I was able to drive by the BMW building, visit the olympic stadium, check in the Hotel, shower, take a 1 hr nap and make it to the airpot to pick up family from Spain by 4pm. From there we hung out and had dinner at Marientplatz, visited the H(beer house) and made it back to the Hotel where I am writing the update. Now i see why people keep doing ED over and over. Tomorrow I am headed to the castle and to LECCO(Lake Como) to spend the night. I will try to post picks if this computer at the marriott will let me download them.

March 24th pickup day 2,3 and 4

It is hard to type in these keyboqrds speciqlly after traveling through so many countries. Day 2-- We went to visit the castle, I had a reservation but did not make it until 1hr later because oaf traffic and weather but we were still able to visit the castle. From the castle we headed torwards Lake Como area using our incredible Nav. system. The trip took like 6 hrs because I was not very handy with the Nav. system and it took us via a longer route. We went up North and then down south. We ended up staying in Lecco which I do not recommend. I would have rather stayed in Bellagio. We visited Bellagio the next morning and we completely enjoyed. Highly recommended. We then headed torwards VilleFranche sur mer and stayed at Hotel La Flore. Very nice people in the Hotel but not thrilled with the Hotel.
Day #3 Now correcting the days as I had day 3 and 4 back wards. Day #3 we drove to Bellagio from Lecco and spent the morning in bellagio. Also had lunch in Bellagio which was one of our favorite places. We then headed to Villefranche which took us about 4 hrs from Bellagio.
Day 4 We visited a small walled city called St. Paul de Vence which is about an hour away and absolutelly loved it. A very nice place to visit. In the afternoon we went back to Monaco to droull over the high end cars there. Where on earth do these people live. I have some nice picks but I have to wait as I am using the Hotels front desk computer. Sorry if I cannot respond but I am in a hurry.

Sorry but it is a real task typing here. I will post when I get back. This is a real experience. Problem is I have to figure out how I can do this before 3 years.

March 24th day #5 (Eze and Antibes)

Today we woke up late and headed out of our hotel in Villefranche; We visited two small towns Eze and Antibes. these were small towns near both Nice and Villefranche. We got to Nice at about 6pm; I am glad we stayed 2 days in Villefranche because the traffic in Nice is a nightmare plus I hated driving there; It seemed I was going to get hit any moment. We are planning either Cannes or St. Tropez tomorrow. The guy in our last Hotel discouraged us from visiting St. tropez due to the crowds from the Holiday.
My trip is almost over. Two more nights. :
Hotels we stayed at:
Munich Marriott- good Hotel but very American like
Jolly Pontevecchio in Lecco- pretty good but lecco is no big deal- recommend Bellagio
La-Flore in Villefranche- Ok for just sleeping but a bit ran down
Four Points Sheraton Elysee in Nice- Very nice but American like

The car has been great specially never have driven or owned a BMW. It handles like it is on rails. My favorite has been the Nav. sytem. My only complaint, not a big one, is that it seems to have the same pick up as my 190hp Maxima. The BMW seems heavier of a car thus having the same pick up as the 190 hp Maxima.

Actually... that is NOT true. The reason the acceleration "feels" the same as your Maxiama is due to the fact that the 2 cars are both 6 cylinder and you will not "feel" any sginificant amount of torque unless move up to a V8 (i.e. 545).

You may feel it is about the same but when you accelerate next to a Maxima, you will see the difference.

cheers,

beewang

Pics from 3-24 Delivery

Just got back. It was good to meet all the bimmerfesters. Did 4 days of intense driving to:

1st night -- Monte Carlo; and yes did drool over all those cars. Ambassador Hotel, nice location but run down

2nd night -- Milan. Excelsior Hotel Gialli (a Meridien), got on priceline as a 5 star with a $92 bid. OK hotel but not really a 5-star. Bathrooms were quite nice though. Advice: do not ask the concierge for restaurant recommendations, he is definitely on the take from one. He sends all his hotel guests to the same one where the food is not good and the service is terrible.

3rd night -- Zurich. Rennaissance Marriott at the airport. Quite a nice hotel, but very American (after all it is a Marriott). The drive from Milan was great and had a really nice race with a Ducatti -- hitting 145+ on several occasions.

4th night -- Munich. Rennaissance Marriott City Center North. On priceline for $60. Not as nice as the Zurich one and location was also not that great.

Now back to reality.

The car is quite mind-boglingly nice. Quite possibly the second best sedan in the world (after the M5). Certainly drives better than my previous two 745s, 540 or 325 -- actually i had always wished for a 3-series like drive in a larger package and it appears that they might just have delivered. The only doubt is what I thought was just a very slight vagueness in the wheel relative to the 3 but after driving the 3 again i am not sure if it is there. Will report back when the 545 comes back stateside.

Week 8 production and the interior quality seems to be significantly higher than the one that I tested in late 2003. Will post pics later.

Sorry to hear you were disappointed with Hotel La Flore. Though obviously not a luxury hotel I found it to be a good value (3 star hotel). There were other locations where I paid more for less. I just hope that in the past 1 1/2 years they have not let things go down. I also enjoyed a very nice dinner in their restaurant. That was also reasonbly priced compared to what we paid for eating at one of the waterfront restaurants.

We got a suite on the ground floor with a large balcony with beautiful view of the bay. See picture below.

The location was great since Nice was a scary place to drive through and Villefranche was right in between Nice and Monaco and all the other small towns we visited. It just seemed that our room was a bit run down, maybe it was just bad luck. Otherwise the location was great and the room over looking the bay was nice as well.

I missed the group picture. My delivery took longer than expected and I know you guys were pressed for time. It was great meeting you all. 153mph so much for the break in period, I only took mine to 120mph @ 4000rpm's with 5 adults and a lot of luggage.

Yam, it was great to meet you too. Sorry for not being able to wait too long for the pic -- I think we waited outside for about 20 min (or maybe 30 min) but then a security guy came and started asking questions -- initially a bit rude but after we explained that we were part of an internet forum and wanted to take a group picture to post on the site, he was fine. We were hoping that we (the 3 cars you see in my pic) along with yourself and bluerocket (?) would fan our cars and then take a pic for bimmerfest.

BTW, is that car in the 2nd pic with your wife bluerocket's/any other bimmerfester's or is it just a coincidence that another ED car is out there.

Your car looks great. Enjoy!

I understand you guys had to leave, my wife had told me you guys were outside waiting for a while. I really didn't want to rush my 1st ED experience. That car just happened to be waiting for a ferry to cross the Lake. I am not sure if it was a ED pick up. Maybe you could tell it was a ED by the plate??

I will try to post picks if this computer at the marriott will let me download them.

vamilrx;

Your car is beautiful! If I may ask, you said that your train arrived @ the BMW delivery center in one hour from the Munich airport, correct? Curious to know what time your flight arrived.....

Thanks.

Thanks.
Our flight arrived at 8:05am on time and by the time we got our luggage it was about 9:00am, by the time we got the train it was around 9:05. It took an hour because if you look at the train route it has to go around and then up. The delivery center is fairly close to the airport but there are no direct stops to Frieman.
